Hi Georg, There was a link posted a while back to a site that discussed swaps using this engine. i'll see if I can find it. If I recall correctly the engine redlines at 3k, but has a very driveable power curve. The trouble has always been the elusive SAE adaptor and I believe the truck must be lifted to clear the oil pan like a cummins motor.

This swap keeps coming up time and time again! Please, someone do it and document it so that I have some one's example to follow. I have a 4BD1T and a 4BD2T that I am considering swapping into my FJ62 after I finish my SOA (might be a while at my speed). The 4BD1T's came in Isuzu NPR trucks from '86 to '91. They were turboed but not intercooled and were rated at 121 hp @ 3000 rpm and ...

i'd like to see this swap too. Astar, the diesel isuzu trucks that you can get this motor from, where do you find them. i dont think ive seen any in canada. although i have seen lots of bighorn diesels in New Zealand(trooper variant). Which engine adapter are you refering too? you say nv4500. what will work to use h55 transmission do you think? also they sound like a good power. i would be ...

sorry what does the abreviation NPR mean? if the engine+transmission+t-case fit and are on the proper side then the obstacles are getting the wierd side mounted shifter through the floor and fabbing up new mounts and crossmembers?

to get back to one of the earlier posts; the engine i'm looking at has a decal on the valve cover. it states build date 12/88 and Hp rating of 126. definetly looks a little smaller than the 4BT.

I had those same concerns about the engine. I e-mailed him about shipping and a couple questions about the rebuild and he only answered my shipping question, that alone is enough for me. I do quite a bit on ebay and have have pretty good luck but I tend to stray away from sellers who either don't respond or don't actually answer your questions. I guess my best option would be a complete donor vehicle but I am afraid my wife would...

We or at least I am strongly considering it. Both options (trim or beat). The bummer would be simply pulling the pan but it is a possibility... Our other thought is let the axle bang it up once or twice a little and then it should be OK Again it is close but not that bad.. With 4" of lift I think we'd be in much better shape but it does fit with OME and slightly taller than stock height shackles...

the isuzu diesel swapper adapter is $650 the AA 700r4 to the Toyota trans case, is a similarly priced. 4L60 was just what I found that was non electric. this was a good truck case, better reliability than a 700R4, but was able to mount to the two adapters. 4L80, my understanding was there were electrically controlled? You can get a computer module to control it, but that is also another chunk of cash.

not shure if this was already covered, this thread is very long. Maby one of the heads of mud could make a sticky listing the KNOWN pieces required for a conversion. Something containing specs and dimensions. To the question, what kind of radiator configuration does the isuzu require? I have a small dribble starting to form on my botton tank, I love upgrading things whenever I get the chance. A nice aluminum radiator would really be cool in...

I just finished taking precision measurements of the mating face of the toyota H41 (same as H55) using a CMM. It should only be a few days before I have a solid model complete. Hey Dougal....what is the proper method for measuring the center of the transmission input shaft relative to some other feature on the front of the transmission (there are two locating holes for mating the bellhousing that seem like good features to use)? I know that...

Yes, I did contact Novak, and they told me that they were not interested in making any adapters for "Diesels" If you want to put in a gas engine then they would be happy to talk to you. Go figure! I have yet to find anyone that would be willing to try this one, so I am still looking, I don't have the CNC machines that I would need to be able to make this a production operation. Making one at a time is just cost...
