I'd probably go Roman legion style, a professional, well drilled, well equipped coordinated armies. Except with a heavier reliance on light and heavy cavalry and plenty of English long-bowmen. All of which would have probably been possible in England in the early middle ages. Whether it would have worked or not, erm....

The problem is that there were no "national" CoAs, or CoAs tied to a certain title, before the later 13th Century. All CoAs were personal ones of the holder. So, whatever you take its ok.
