OK. First to clarify 1) You are trying to install an ATT/Yahoo DSL modem, correct? 2) Am i to understand that you DO have the installation CD (i assume that's what you refer as the disk? 3) You may have 2 seperate issues > Installing a driver so Windows can talk to modem device > Configure the modem so it will allow you to talk to ATT/Yahoo DSL Let's start here..... > Look in Device Manager. At about $205 you could get this combination: BFG Tech GS-550 550W + XFX Radeon HD 4870 1GB The HD 4870 will provide much, much better performance over the GTS 250. The PSU will do decently for a single card.

It isn't the wattage that is important as much as it is the quality of the power supply. Get a good one as opposed to a cheap or no-name brand, unless you already have a good one such as Seasonic, OCZ, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, or one of the other top models.. The video card is fine.

Overclocking the Cpu will have the biggest effect on your mark 06 score, mark 06 is heavily cpu oriented.
The range most people try and get to is 3.2-3.6 to really let a gpu breath,
another side problem is the fact that your running in a 32bit system, x86 can only see a max of 4Gb, but is more like 3.5Gb this includes the memory on all the components also.
When the PC starts the system will...

Is Java necessary for system functionality or security? No. Personally though, I prefer to have it at my disposal so I can enjoy *all* of the web, not just 99% of it (and the occasional program that uses it)
It also doesn't *just* do the web: some applications use Java libraries to function. Whether or not that affects you really depends on the programs you use, but comparatively, very few ...

IE8 isn't so bad really. Firefox is fine, but it likes to eat a lot of RAM because it preloads links from webpages you have open, or so I have heard. Firefox doesn't have a huge security advantage over IE like it used to back in the days of IE6/7, so just use whichever browser you prefer. Reinstalling Firefox or removing any add-ons might make it run a little faster.

sorry to add another post, but to illustrate the above I have the game Far Cry 2 which plays ok on low specs but it fails the 'Can you run it' Test because of my card and cpu speed. I know Im stuck with my video card which is why I want to know if increasing the cpu speed will help and if so how its done. I'm not going to ask about ideal cpu speed (I've seen the warning and I dont want to be shot...

Did you actually check ALL of the addressees? What most likely happened was that someone else got a mass mailing Worm and they had you in their address book. The Worm then sent out email to everyone in their address book!
That why your security programs didn't find anything!

Did it do this before?
Did you try downgrading the drivers?

If it's only about turning LCDs off, then Taimur ASAD's TurnOffLCDv101 will be your favourite. It shuts down LCD screens and only weighs 69 KB. But I think it may need additional software like . NET framework. I couldn't run it after a fresh XP SP2 install. After I made the updates, it ran like a charm. Here, give it a try:

The P7P55D series sits at the center of Asus' P55 line-up, and the $220 P7P55D Deluxe we are reviewing today is meant to be your no-nonsense choice if you are looking for an integral P55 solution. Then the obvious question has to be what exactly makes this motherboard special?

1) Is there also an onboard sound device? If yes, is it disabled in your BIOS?
2) Click Start->Run,enter: dxdiag . Click the Save all Information button. Look at the file to find what it says about Sound Devices. It should look something like what follows. Copy/paste the sound info into your next post

I'd go for a 5850 or 5870 if your budget allows for it, or a GTX 260 which can be found for 170-200.
And FFS get rid of that P4 and get a Core2 otherwise you'll be cpu limited.

I've had my xp for few years now, it only has 256 MB of ram, it runs very slow even after I re-install it, so I'm sure it's not the malwares that is slowing it down. it takes about 3 mins just to open internet explorer. I didn't install any protection program cuz it would become extreme slow if I do. I'm about to add 1 gb of ram (total 1280 MB) to see if it helps to boost my computer's ...

I don't know if that is the right one or not, but I'm fairly certain Windows 7 will autodetect that and it will work 'out of the box' so to speak.
Vista and 7 do a very good job with NIC drivers, its not like XP where you have to make sure you've got a NIC driver ready to go after the install.
