Quote: What I meant was that a TON of people would recognize and desire high quality sound -if they had a chance to hear it. What I mean is a group that definitely is larger than the extant group of audiophiles. That is my experience as well. Then they tend to get annoyed when they go back to their own systems.

The deal is that if you could get rid of about 90% of the metal in most audio connectors they would sound a lot better. The metal is the conductive path but it is also a major source of sonic issues.

Uh, let me guess - it's a quantum waveguide. I sold Magic Rings from JSMR several years ago. Magic Rings are quantum waveguides. They were also metal, heavy, non-magnetic, directional.

It's actually great for all runs long and short, as it is great at resisting noise. The concept is that two wires running in the same path in space, will pickup the exact same noise voltage when the noise is caused by a time varying magnetic field. (This is exactly what ground loops do, capture magnetic field and turn it into current.) A differential input takes the signals from each wire, and subtracts them. A noise which is exactly the...

Your attempts to insult me would be offensive if they were not so completely ineffectual. You can always identify an intellectually limited person by the fact that they have a deep-seated need to dismiss anyone with an extensive formal education as stupid, especially teachers. After establishing a reputation over a 40-year period as an expert in my field, and earning the respect of my distinguished peers based on my work in my field, I am...

I think all relatively low wattage tube amps should have 16 ohm taps; not having it would be too limiting. A lot of tube amp owners complain about not having enough speakers made for them, but there's a treasure trove of vintage full rangers or field coils out there for which you can utilize those 16 ohm taps. And many of them sound as good or better than a lot of what's floating out there...

I read on another forum that Dan D'Agostino has been forcibly removed from his own offices (by law officials) under the instruction from the rest of the Krell Industries board over his constant and often disruptive 'exchanges' with his ex-wife that has been detrimental towards the companyÂ’s efforts in these less than easy times. Not a good sign even for big player in the audio industry....

I've tried both directions, over time with varying degrees of success, but right now, It's a integrated class A line amp for me. One that I completely rebuilt. This means *one* audio cable from a given source...and *one* speaker cable going to a passively crossed over 2-way speaker. Less is more. It is also rockin' and very revealing. No muss-no fuss. I think this idea was discussed a few issues ago in Stereophile, twice in the same issue! I think it was in some Conrad Johnson review, where CJ recommended this, but Art Dudley wrote something about it that seemed contrary to CJ's recommendation. Maybe I dreamt it all. I've actually tried this with Leben CS600 push/pull and Harbeth Super HL5. Yes, the 4 ohm tap controls the bass better...

It's a great low output MC cart and I've always liked the sound of A-T cartridges. I had one of the originals and it served me well enough that I'd snap up another if the opportunity presented itself.

very cogent thoughts len. for models of success and failure in the motor vehicle world, one can look at cadillac and bmw motorcycles. both are high end products that had appealed to older males with money. caddy decided to remake itself about 10 years ago and changed some of their products to reflect a younger demographic while keeping the ones that still appealed to the country club...

Sumiko Blue Point 2 cartridge has always worked well in my Rega Planar 2. Very good depth of field for the price. Easy to listen to for long periods without fatigue, very smooth.

Pretty neat article. I especially liked the comment by Empa scientist Schwarze, " (For a blind test) there is no unambiguous scientific way of measuring tone quality."

The problem is that most folks seem to be under the impression that all you neded to do to get high end sound is go out and buy a high end player and hook it up. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is the reason for the old chestnut, " Perfect Sound Forever." And it's quite difficult to find the circumstance where the real potential of the humble CD can be demonstrated. ...
