No extra cost, just some work to download it from the Adobe site. And no, it doesn't look very modern. No scroll bars, for example. And the results I got by trying it out didn't seem to be very good. -Noel

This service Carbonmade is appealing for its clean look and low cost. I haven’t tested it. Updated: I have tested this service. It's straightforward and elegantly implemented, but quite rudimentary. Uploading images is currently limited to laboriously choosing/uploading files. Will check back later for Lightroom integration and such.

Ultimate camera bag ??
Published (2009-11-28 09:38:00)
I am pretty certain there is no ultimate camera bag but I am tending to favour Kata these days. I wrote a blog post on the subject a while back at Camera bags for the professional photographer | Nude Photo Pro

Kevin, I'll have a look at the video later today when I'm at a sound enabled PC. I guess my point is that there is no car that is bulletproof either... sure some are better than others.. but you pay for it... the Computer has become something of a "commodity" and cars havent quite gotten to that yet. We've seen plenty of new car issues... 2 year old 911 needed a new tranny (not my fault) 2 year old suburban needed...

I've never seen a great zoom beat a great prime. I doubt it will ever happen. I personally refused to use a zoom until 10 years ago and I finally succumbed to the dreaded 'lazy photographer' syndrome. It's hard to go back to having to move in or move back a few feet when a quick flick of the wrist will do it for you. The honest truth is that in most cases I am thrilled to go through a wedding (or any assignment) without...

Any one miss eye controlled focus

Thank you Chuck for your most informative reply with good well reasoned arguments why maybe Canon decided to drop the feature. Doug, I agree with you that the vocal minority too often have a huge influence they don't deserve.

Ultimate camera bag ??

When going for Billingham, you might be better of with the 445, which is a little smaller than the 550 - and already quite a haul, particularly in any space more confined than a three-lane motorway [that's 3 in both directions]. The two real downsides of the Billinghams is the padding, which is a little on the soft side and breaks down after a few years.

Well, that doesn't exactly impel me to upgrade. I can safely assume that there must be no basic improvement to the filter, and that now it comes at extra cost. Too bad. I found it useful, even with its faults.

Well, here's a data point for you to consider.
When the Mac Pro came out, I bought one shortly after. 2006. It's middle of the then range, dual 2.66 Xeon. It has run 24/7 since the day I plugged it in, apart from the odd powerfailure. I've kept it up to date with the OS but have never done a bare re-install.
Runs as fast now as day 1, possibly faster. It has also never crashed.

Nothing like an ultimate camera bag, you need different ones for different occasions. After LowePro, self-made, none-specific small rucksack, and Billingham [still a favourite] I've now settled for ThinkTank bags. They are well thought-out, very well made, and come in a sensible range. For the big trip or as storage at home I own an Airport Addicted.
I also have an Urban Disguise 40, which...

Noel,
Here's an off the wall thought..
Is there any interest in "method" that could be used to edit a large image whilst retaining the speed of working on a smaller image..
My workflow bogs down in CS4 using the full frame raw from the 5dii, things just arent "realtime".
Is there a method of say forking the editting..
Open file
Click on "reduced edit"
this spawns a smaller file...

It's a great shame these primary reviews sites just rely on 1 camera and 1 lens taking no account of sample variances and calibration effect.
From my own experience the 450D/XSi can produce a superb image, better than your examples, but it can't do it consistently.

Thanks for the informative summary. I went through some of these a year ago and chose Show it Web ShowitFast, Inc. - Home
I started at $99. and within 2 days paid the extra $99. for the pro version.
I can have a gallery ready to upload within a minute and it looks as good as I need. We did combine Show-it with Breeze for our portrait sales galleries and I was very happy with the results ...

AFAIK, Canon has never used eye-controlled focus in any EOS-1 model.

I think your methodology and conclusions are pretty reasonable, as far as they go. Most importantly, you don't overreach on your conclusions. Well done. I certainly agree that L doesnt magically confer (or its absence, deny).
If money were no object and you were seeking the best performance in these tests you could find, I would make the following predictions :

Drew, thanks for coming out of semi-retirement to address the issue/rumors surrounding the 7D.
I'm sure that you realize that by introducing the scientific method and facts, you have eliminated the ability for many to continue their fun. What a shame!!
Your voice has been missed. Glad that you weighed in on this issue.
Regards,
Marc
