Cool. I love it when a plan comes together. So Joe, you're saying that I should run the carb exhaust manifold because of the cold climate? I don't have the heat riser thing (PO took it off several trucks ago), but the current 300 isn't too cold blooded in the winter as long as I have the choke adjusted properly. Would the EFI exhaust manifolds be much worse? I could always hillbilly engineer a heat riser for them. I'm glad...

Does the divider run lengthwise? If so, do not turn the carb on the C. Offy has solved the distribution problem by other means

the main caps have a slight interference fit in their registers to make sure they are properly located side to side. most engine builders use a plastic faced mallet to get them into place before they torque the main bolts. that said however it sounds like either your engine is worn out, or someone installed the wrong bearings in the motor. perhaps the crank was ground undersize and standard bearings were installed.

SR, When I had my carb off today, I noticed that there is a divider in the plenum town the run of both sides of the Offy C. If I could get my carb turned 90, would that give me some advantage and also the upper rpm range also. I have been tinkering on it today and really revved it up through the gears. Man was that fun! This is a bad six! I still have a bit of a dead spot coming into the throttle slowly below 1500rpms but past 2000rpms it...

will a 300 hold 1700 rpm at 65?
Published (2009-11-23 14:53:00)
I am not getting the "use OD around town" school of thought. Speaking about an auto, I think having a switch with which to LOCK the converter when you want it locked, and a third gear shift and hold would be more effective than switching to OD all the time. Maybe I am wrong, but it would seem like people are thinking like they have three on the tree. The OD in the auto, or the 5th on the floor is for high speed moving. You do...

Okay think I'm goin fmartin_gila's way. Seems to be the most efficent, easiest, cheapest way. Do I need to move the transmission crossmember or does't line back up pretty close an the bell housing I need for the adapter, thats any 54-62 Ford car 3 speed manual.

will a 300 hold 1700 rpm at 65?
Published (2009-11-24 01:08:00)
yea I wouldn't think that would be good, with that tire size that's somewhere around 1550-1600 rpm at 65. Must be a gutless wonder at 55 mph. It might be good at holding 75 mph, but that's where the econocrate dominates in aerodynamics The crazy thing is that I'm planning to pull an econo SROD out of the local yard tomorrow. With all it's issues, it is still the only bolt on OD manual tranny that will work with the...

Can't offer any help with the carb, but I do run a Pertronix I with matching coil. Very easy install, slight improvement in mileage and ease of starting, and most of all trouble free. I did pick up a Mallory dual point centrifical distributor some time ago that I figured to use if I ever decided to change to a different type carb. I am still running the Holley 1904 carb and the LOM distributor...

Howdy Charlie: What distributor/ignition are you using? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Have you verified that your timing mark is accurate? Did this carb ever work right? What did you use before this "rebuilt"? What was on the engine the last time it ran right? Sorry for all the questions, but as with all engine problems, the devil is in the details.. Adios, David

If you are saying there is no more room to make additional timing marks beyond your 14°mark, your only option may be to use an advance timing light to get you there. You can also, get a cloth tape measure, used for sewing and wrap around the OD of the balancer. Make sure that where it overlaps, you pull it tight. Take the overall measurement you get and divide by 360. This will tell you in ...

Here you go...carb'd Bronco with 3.55s, headers and new everything will NOT hold 65 in OD on even the slightest incline. Shoot, I need to be hitting around 3K to hold speed on hills (this is in OD). Injected will be different, 5-speed will be different. This is with the SROD. Third I can do it but the RPMs are up so.....like already mentioned your answers will be widely varied. Good luck with it ...

Regulator? Un hook the battery and then hook a light bulb between the battery and cable you just unhooked. If there is a load / drain the light will light. Pull out the fuses and un hook things till the light goes off. The brighter it lights the larger the drain is. If you have a good multimeter you can use that instead of the light. The meter usually requires plugging into different jacks so...

to help answer that, let me ask a few questions. how much of your truck's history do you know? are you gages reading accurately - i've seen weird oil pressure things appear to happen for gage problems what does your truck weigh? unless you are going racing, i would leave the coil over suspensions alone. they are a lot of work to install, and just as much work to dial in properly. the front suspension same way. here is what i plan for both my falcon and mustang suspension wise, they will be basically the same but i will note any differences; front: lower the upper control arm pivot point 1" and back 1/8" just like ...

Welcome to the board CoolGuy! I think it would depend on your application and liquidity ($). Just EFI manifolds with duals should help. Jeff

That is awesome! Well, not that it spun the bearing and got all screwed up, but that it still ran despite it, especially missing a partial cylinder and ring! The old inlines are definitely tough! I've heard guys rant and rave about the old chebby 292 and other inlines, and I was just curious if they were as tough as the Fords, I guess so. I know what you're talking about with the heavy wall ...

Can you clarify for me: are you running a mechanical oil pressure gauge or are you using a sending unit? You refer to both in your post. If you are using a sending unit, have you tried swapping it out? If mechanical, are the lines clear (no kinks)? Do you notice symptoms of low oil pressure - top end making noise?

Sounds like a typical parts store rebuild, not what they are supposed to be about. I wonder if they somehow sent you a 'core' rather than a rebuilt one? Seems strange that they are not returning calls... Wonder if the 'bad economy' has hit pony and they are understaffed (both skill and warm bodies)? It would not be the first time such a thing has happened in recent times to what used to be ...

Silly question, but are you sure its the carb and not the timing? If I had the problem you described, I would be looking at timing first.

Howdy Back Rusty: Your carb typically has a SCV and my bet is that it's blown- causing high vacuum and advance at idle and no power under load. Being it is in a truck may raise an exception, so the best, first step is to verify what carb (SCV or Non-SCV) type and distributor (LoM or Non-LoM) you have. Adios, David
