On your guest machine, did you set up the network with all required parameters? You mentioned the IP address. How about DNS, gateway, etc. Sorry if this is an obvious question. In other words, you can reach the outside world from the guest, but cannot reach the guest from the outside ?

It's way more powerful that Windows' command-line (yes, even counting win2008's powershell). When you learn a bit more about it, you will discover that. For now, what do you need to get started? Change the samba log level in /etc/samba/smb.conf and run `service smb reload` to have it take effect. Now try desperately to recreate the problem! When successful, quickly change the log level back and do another reload. Now go rummage through the log files for the machine in question and have a look at that.

kmod-ath5k has been removed from the ELRepo site. I'm sure Alan can provide it upon request (maybe with the added feature you mentioned?).

I think you will need to use a vga= number option for the kernel at boot time . . . Let's see what I can find. Ah ha, please have a read of this Red Hat Knowledgebase article .

Hello, For the quotas I usually do it the old-fashioned way, similar to the way it is described here , although admittedly nowadays there are easier(?) and more elegant ways to implement quotas. For the fstab entry, plug in the drive and wait for it to mount. Then take a look at your /etc/mtab file. You should see an entry for it and, with minor modifications, you'll be able to copy this entry ...

First of all, be sure that you've installed an appropriate driver ('ath5k', or 'ath_pci' aka 'madwifi') for this chipset. You can check it out with dmesg . On my machine (with D-Link DWL-G550 and madwifi): Quote: [ root@nas ~]# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep wifi wifi0: Atheros AR2414 chip found (MAC 7.9, PHY 2112A 4.5, Radio 5.6) ath_pci: wifi0: Atheros 5212: mem=0x50100000, irq=58 [ root@nas ...

Hi nicolaevladescu and welcome to CentOS forums running a scipt in background is simple as adding "&" at the end of the command as for the output you can redirect all output(std, error) to /dev/null with <command to run> > /dev/null 2>&1

As root, you can reset a user password with the 'passwd' command. See 'man passwd' for more details. If you've forgotten the root password, you can boot into single user mode, and run 'passwd' at the # prompt. Booting into Single-User Mode: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation _Guide/s1-rescuemode-booting-single.html

Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst Near the top there is a line that says "default=". Normally that is set to "0", or the first OS listed below it. Find the number for windows in your configuration and set the default to that number, remembering that the numbering starts with 0, not with 1. Save the file, reboot.

Does fdisk -l find the drive? If so, you need to partition, format, and mount the drive. Please do the required reading: http://www. centos.org/modules/newbb/viewforum.php? forum=47 and http://www.centos.org/docs/4/

The guest is currently running a kernel that is one version behind. Please update it to kernel-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 and then re-test. As for the host CPU usage when the guest is idle, what parameters do you pass to the guest kernel at boot time? Perhaps notsc divider=10 would be appropriate. Let's see what toracat has to say on the subject . . .

Quote: The nvidia-graphics bit is coming from atrpms - the kernel is coming from updates. What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that nvidia-graphics has not been built for this version of the kernel (centos-plus)? Yes, that's right. The package from ATrpms is specific to a particular kernel. You would be better off using the kABI tracking kmod-nvidia package from ELRepo . Quote:...

Don't slice the physical disk. Let the VMWare create virtual disk files on the existing filesytem. You will be better off *not* allocating the entire virtual disk size on creation and allowing the 2 GB chunk sizes (that's the default IIRC).
