Hello, I am now trying to decide upon an Eb cornet. My Bb cornet, Yam. 6330IIS has proven to be an excellent `crossover` instrument between `classical` literature (Hayden, Hummel, technical studies, etc,) and `jazz` literature (not screaming high notes or Dixieland, but rather, contemporary art music, i.e, bebop, modal, post-bop, ect.) i actually rejected the Xeno as it seemed a bit trumpety ...

Can anyone please tell what is a Besson 10-10 Long Cornet (dated prior to 1973)? ... apart from telling me it's "a Besson", or, it's "a Besson 10-10 Long Cornet"...! For example, is there a listing available of Besson Cornets by model, year, design, or sim.? Many thanks for your thoughts.

I recently took early retirement from my tenured university post in the US. I am currently living in Paris and Tokyo. My education and background is in jazz performance, classical performance and music composition. I have played the cornet on and off during the ...

It's great to see a Mellophone Thread on the Forum. I've always thoughtthat the Mellophone hasn't received the recognition it deserves. I'm surethere are a LOT of closet Mellophonists out there, too timid to admit theirhabituation to the black sheep of the brass family. Well, I'm outtingmyself here and now. Yes, I PLAY THE MELLOPHONE (maybe not so well, but Ido play it every once in a while.) So,...

A lot of teachers, when correcting pressure problems, tell their students to not put their little finger in the hook, as it reduces clenching of the instrument. Different people apply pressure using different hands, and without the little finger in the hook, only the left hand can apply the pressure, which is usually a less common way of applying the pressure.
