Why does evolution select...
Published (2009-11-23 23:23:00)
Not sure if this is correct but I was thinking about how many fossils would be required to follow just one evolutionary path in order to follow the changes. Suppose I went back 500 million years to the introduction of vertebrates and followed the line of a mouse or mouselike creature(not good with names) to let's say today's squirrel. If the mouse and descendants were capable of two generations a year on average over that span...

We never took our dogs deer hunting. Just bird hunting. I remember my dad spending hours tossing a dummy into the water for our retriever. Our pointer didn't seem to need training, she was just good.

Live it. Don't just exist, but live your life.
My husband had a cousin that was lower middle class, struggling to pay bills. She always set enough aside to go on a cruise every year. My husband and I are waiting til the kids are gone, til we retire, til we can afford it, etc to go on a cruise.
She died of a brain tumour. If she had lived our ...

I asked this partly because I just read something that says that people's beliefs in life after death don't necessarily correlate with their other religions beliefs. That is, many who says they believe in God do not really believe in life after death. They are not sure they'll end up in heaven with God. And, on the other hand, many of those who don't believe in God nevertheless think that in ...

While I can't help you with your question, I'd just like to say that I would really appreciate a nice little bit of software or video which clearly demonstrates the comparative sizes of subatomic particles - it's too hard for my brain to even attempt to visualize with just thought alone.
While you're at it, could you please make one for the ...

Maybe a silly question, but planets are pretty much round, yet gravity is often depicted as a spiral, and Galaxies are mostly spiral. Also Saturn shows some sort of spiral build up in its rings. But by imagining this spiral build up I do not end up with a spherical shape. I end up with a saucer shape in my mind. What accounts for gravity building ...

Why does it have to be Israel versus Palestine?
Were all humans, and the fact is that violence while it may be in our nature, is not our first instinct, it is maybe number 40 on the list. Our first instinct is to come together.

the comparison of the belief in leprechauns and faeries and the flying spaghetti monster and invisible unicorns and santa claus and the rest of the bunch to the belief in god is a straw man argument.

On average, guns kill or wound 276 people every day in America. Of those shot, about 75 adults and nine children die.
That adds up to just over 100,000 victims of gun violence a year. The rate of firearm murders in the United States is about 16 times that in Australia and 26 times that in Britain....
