Question for Race Directors....
Published (2009-11-28 21:30:48)
This year in Cincinnati, the Pigs Marathon, the officials had to change the marathon course because of large house fire on the course minutes before the race started. They had to change the certified marathon course away from the fire for the safety of the runners, that caused the course to be longer. I think it was in Iowa I heard that, a train stop the leaders in a marathon per JMaple's posting. I ran the "Heartwatcher's...

Question for Race Directors....

I wonder if the RR officials told her that with the normal schedule, there wouldn't be a problem with the trains. I find it hard to believe that if a train was running late, with maybe millions of dollars of commerce on board, they would agree to hold the train for hours so a marathon could finish.

I know that they don't do speeches for free. However, why not get someone with more connection to Indiana. I would have voted for Gary Bird and Jed talking about bringing a competitive and large event in Northern Indiana with the Veteran's Marathon. They could have talked about the process of putting on the race, the idea, certification, chip timing. They could have talked about any last minute issues. I think you missed in...

Question for Race Directors....

It like getting the TV stations to come to Col City for the Veterans Marathon, " well if no news in Fort Wayne happens we will be their" The train folks were really helpful, but honest I do not think anything was schedule to begin with the tracks are used seldom. However the tracks that are south of Col City are very busy, I believe those run through FTW downtown.

of course, it was 1985 and I ran an 8K, finishing in 27-something. Thanks to the Homestead cheering section (Todd Mullins, Kodi Mullins, Andrew McClain, etc.). My goal is to see how much faster I can be next year. Certainly I will be fitter as will the course. By the time the Open race was held, it was virtually all mud.

Question for Race Directors....
Published (2009-11-26 20:29:53)
....regarding course managment. This morning at the Gobbler, a big "inconvenience" nearly occurred when a train crossed the race course just before the start of the race. (Luckily, the race hadn't started yet, but what if it had?) So that's my question: on race courses where there is a train crossing, what would happen if a train came during the race? (Other than the obvious of stopping and waiting for it to...

...The first was the older route that now shows the new section marked in red on the county road near mile 6 (The yellow section was the old course). The
second Google Earth map covers the trails pretty well. The trail is marked with special plastic signs. You won't get lost - just keep turning to your left
if you run it clockwise.

thanks for all of your work and all of the volunteers this year for a well ran race. The course was well marked, and the +1,000 runners/walkers were all happy
about being able to run a fun run just before the great meal. Jerry Mazock's 33rd annual run was a success again, over a dozen runners showed. I visited
his race and then rush to St Francis, in time to make the start. I'm glad Mitch ...

I have had the pleasure of contacting Brian Sell in 2008 and now Bill Rodgers in 2009 to arrange their trips to Fort Wayne. Both of these guys have been a
pleasure to deal with and very unassuming and accommodating.
They also have bills to pay so I am curious why you think they should do appearances for free. Would you? Of course they charge a fee but I feel that their
fees have been quite ...

As far as I know Railroad companies don't care and races have to adjust or avoid crossings. It is up to the Race Directors how to handle this. I was at
a cross country meet where it was announced if the race got stopped by a train the race would be over and places taken from that point. A road race (I
can't remember which one) recently had this happen and it bunched the first few runners up. ...

Thanks for the article. Fout is was and still is one of my favorite

seeing his time and placing at Nationals I was even more intrigued.
