Hi. During what might be called routine maintenance of my machine I changed my RAM cards which were acting up and installed another soundcard. Checking all the details I realise I am only on XP service pack 2. A memory testing programme that I ran before to check for RAM errors now says that my version of Windows can only address 888 Mb of contiguous RAM. This is a change. I am using XP ...

Actually it brought plenty of destruction to Baton Rouge. All classes at LSU (where I'm pursuing my PhD) have been suspended for a week. I flew out of New Orleans back to Birmingham Last Friday (Aug. 29) and have just now been able to get a flight back. I'm sitting in the airport as I write this. From what I have heard, much of the city of Baton Rouge is still without power. Debris has made ...

SNORCHAT IS NO LONGER RENEGADE...it has gone MAINSTREAM!! 4pm Indianapolis/New York time 3pm Chicago time I don't know or care what time it is in California 8pm (2000) GMT 9pm (2100) Monaghan Time Last Sunday, we had over 300 chatters from 47 countries. Even Sun Ra dropped in from Outer Space for a few lines of chat, but his cousin, EtLux, was nowhere to be found, doubtless at home ...

I recently acquired GPO and have been, quite frankly, disappointed in the quality of many of the instruments. The trumpets sound buzzy and artificial; the trombones...well, they sound more like flatulence than the mellow tenor instruments they should be, and the sectional strings have an annoying electronic quality. I have been working with the assumption that I MUST be missing something ...

Many thanks, Nickie and Per, for your useful tips. I've now downloaded the Sibelius demonstration videos and some bits from the Finale site including Finale Notepad. I think, so far, since there appears to be so little to choose between the two, I shall probably go for Finale price wise-----unless, of course, someone tells me that Sibelius is more easy to install or work with. By the way, I'd ...

Over the years I have accumulated quite a number of sound fx files with a .pca extension -- which I am unable to play in Windows Media player or import into any application I currently own (Sonar, Premiere, etc.). Doing a little research on the web, I found that the pca extension was used by Sound Forge. I know I used this application (before it was acquired by Sony) once upon a time, on one ...

Well, I know that if you have a piano sample set with audience/wide/ambient perspective, you're pretty much out of luck if you don't want so much 'room' or natural reverb, since it's part of the sound already. I'm wondering if, with a GOOD reverb, you can get pretty much any kind of ambience you want, say for instance you start with a player's perspective sample set. Any opinions?

Herb You know that I think that this is some of your best work to date. But as Michael said, it wouldn't hurt to tone down the cymbal a hair or 3. When it comes to jazz, you can't get much better advice from anyone better than Steve(sosmus). The man knows his jazz. Very nice work!!! Ron
