Software Deployments
Published (2009-11-22 19:09:00)
with some testing I've noticed it seems to be downloading the package rather slow. its only a 90mb package and it seems to take a good 10-15min or more to get the package. I know its downloading the package because I monitored on of the connections and I could see the network traffic pulling down small bits of traffic every few seconds until the number added up to 90MB. Delay Inventory Until 15 Minutes...
Published (2009-11-27 07:54:00)
quote: ORIGINAL: seyles If anyone has any real ideas of how to delay the inventory at logon, please share :) Inventory cycles do not occur at logon, it happens at boot time. In general, hardware inventory is quick (~200 Seconds) for a delta inventory. In general, software inventory can take a while to run (10+ minutes). For this reasons, most companies only do SW inventory once a week and HW daily.

Well, you can't do it exactly like you want to because WQL is pretty limited in what it lets you do...I'm not sure if it lets you put a COUNT in the select statement, I'm not sure there's a HAVING clause...but that doesn't matter, what matters is you can do this with a little trickery. Essentially, reference SMS_R_System twice in the FROM clause and join it to itself. When the netbiosname...

change your inventory to 3 days? :) are you doing a delta or full inventory every 3 days? Delta should run pretty darn quick It's based off the service starting up, it really has nothing to do with the user logging in, it's just a coincidence since they are logging in right after they start up... without custom scripting and such, there isn't any easy way that i'm aware of that you ...

jcallen, Is there a particular reason that SU's are hidden from the end user? I seem to remember that if you click on the software update notification, there is an option for the end user to schedule their installation for a later time. Maybe it would be easier to educate your user community, rather than try and make a custom config to your environment?...

Scott, What we do is enable the remote control prompt at the site level, for collections where we don't want the prompt active we advertise a .reg file with two registry values: PermissionRequired = 0 ( dword) UpdateEnabled=NO You can reference the following KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826841 You should note that if a client repair is done and the ...

What does the advertisement log file say under System Status - Advertisement Status - "Your advertisement" right click then select top option on pop up menu (not looking at it so I can't remember the exact option) This will tell you if there is an error. Also what software are you trying to deploy?

When deploying to a machines using software deployment do you have it set to run from the DP or download and run from cache? How about you TS – is this set to run from DP or download and run? I’ve run into a few pieces of software that will only run fully successfully when downloaded and then run from cache. However I have my TS to run from the DP. In these instances I’ve scripted the copy of the...

This would be down the the polling interval that you have set for your Computer Client Agent. Expand Site Management - Site - Site Settings - Client Agent. Open up the Computer Client Agent and you'll need to adjust the Interval to your desired time. This will change the polling interval for all clients in your environment and also increase the amount on network traffic/load on the ...

There is an overlapping boundries tool you can use that will show you if you have overlapped boundries, but it will also show you what boundaries are assinged to what DP's. Here's one way to do it... http://blogs.msdn.com/rslaten/archive/2007/03/20/f inding-overlapping-boundaries-in-sms-smsboundaries -v1-42.aspx

Based on the complexity of this script you might think about running it from local cache and not via the DP.

user state migration tool can do that for you... which is part of the configmgr OSD process, depending on what you are trying to capture, you might need to create a custom xml to let usmt know what files/settings to capture

I have a Windows 2003 R2 ConfigMgr Server (Distribution Point and Proxy Management Point) installed in my ConfigMgr environmnet. When I run the script and point to that server everything works as expected. This leads me back to a rights issue that may be stopping me from being able to run the PingPoller on the 2008 server. Just wondered if anyone had a Windows 2008 ConfigMgr Server ...
