Apple vs Amazon ????
Published (2009-11-26 18:00:00)
Price is the only difference, as kornchild2002 stated they are all the same iPods. Be aware that Amazon may also have older generations of iPods in stock as well although they are well labeled. The latest classic is known as the 7 Generation.

Ringtones on iPhone

Welcome to iLounge, awilkins have you set iTunes to sync ringtones? I believe it's a seperate process to selecting music and video, so it has it's own tab when you plug in the iPhone and start iTunes

Have not heard either of these buds but I have experience with and have owned buds fro both Shure and Monster. This will boil down to what sound signature you are looking for. The Shures will most certainly sound a lot more neutral, and will probably be very clinical and flat. These are studio-class monitors and are designed more for recording and monitoring than listening to music. One thing to note is these Shure are high impedance - 44ohms....

Use Macdrive. It's free for a limited time to use before you'll have to buy it. It will allow the Mac iPod to be read on a windows PC. Then you can remove the files from the iPod. http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ And no cross posting in the forums. I removed your other threads.

Where do you get your music?
Published (2009-11-26 04:23:00)
In this order: Amazon Mktplace (KILLER!!!) Half.com Amazon.com eBay (cd lots) yard sales B&M Stores: Bestbuy (via price matching) Wal-Mart ($7 deals here and there) Target (but very seldom) I buy CDs only. No downloads for me. I have bought over 200 in the last 4-6 weeks with the majority costing less than $4 shipped, including the brand new jewel case each one goes into upon receiving. I only buy new on the rare occasions they are...

Good riddance. Most of us are sick of our technical forums being turned into a political dung heap by butt-heads that are so attention-starved and needy that they simply cannot stand not spewing off-topic politics....

iTunes Sync Updates my entire iPod
Published (2009-11-20 07:58:00)
Switching to manual management may not be the correct answer. I and many other folks have our iPods set to automatically sync and don't have the same issue the OP has. TheBorg - when you have an iPod set to automatically sync, which I think yours is set to, it should only sync those items that have changed in some way since the last tyme the iPod was connected. Have you made any changes to your music?

Glad to help! As far as apps, the single most essential jailbroken app is SBSettings —you can control things like WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and other various system parameters without going to the Settings app. A real time-saver! If you're into theming, you might want to check out Winterboard, which lets you customize pretty much every visual element of the iPhone. Backgrounder lets you run any app (not just Mail, Safari, and iPod)...

The iPod uses a cryptic file/folder naming system I believe mandated by the recording industries to discourage piracy. If you want the music files renamed in the default Artist/Album/Song Name file/folder format you can simply add them to iTunes and iTunes will rename them accordingly by their ID3 tags. iTunes Preferences will need to have the "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files ...

Anapod does not work properly with the classic. It is not supported by Anapod. Basically Red Chair software has ignored the "Classic" ipod users all together. At this point you are stuck with Itunes.

Check the ID3 tags by right clicking the songs in iTunes and choosing Get Info. It sounds like there is no Artist named. The tags should contain at least the song, artist, album names along with a genre.

Apple's current pricing/storage structure is indeed quite bizarre. However, the current 32 GB model has a few advantages (besides storage space) over the 8 GB model: faster processor, more memory, and some graphics capabilities that, while not currently in use, will allow for some impressive stuff once developers start taking advantage of them. Even until then, you'll notice a general snappiness ...

Any podcast can be subscribe to through iTunes even if it is not in the iTunes Store. Go to the Podcaster's web site and look for a link to their "RSS feed". Copy that link and paste it to iTunes's Advanced/Subscribe to Podcast menu.
If you are not sure what the RSS feed is post a link or the name of the podcast and I'll look for the feed for you.

I don't have a Classic (yet) so I can't answer that but I will say that I have no concern buying one. As soon as my 60GB bites the bullet I'll get a Classic right away.
Second, iTunes is free. You shouldn't be paying anything for it.

If your old iPod still connects, :-

Check your Preferences (Edit->Preferences) and go to the Devices Tab and make sure that Prevent iPods and iPhones from Syncing Automatically is unchecked.
Click on the Nano in iTunes, you should see the Summary Tab .
In the Summary Tab you need to make sure that Manually Manage Music is NOT checked.
If you changed something on the Summary Tab , click Apply to keep the change.
