it's more than just knowing about them. as you said you've noticed the rhythm and stuff is important. what chords are playing is important and you should make note of it and remember it, but also keep in mind the only real importance is the sound they are making. you need not look at it in a theoretical way to begin with. if you mess around with your key scale you'll find some stuff you like, and some stuff you don't. play...

CAGED - never thought of it as a scale pattern. I've always just used it as another way to do barre chords. I use the A, E and D patterns and leave C and G alone as I find them difficult. As to two notes per string, I've used these scale patterns since go. http://www.cyberfret.com/scales/basic/print.html Long story short, all have value, it's a matter of what you like.

chris j- the future of gigging
Published (2009-11-27 19:16:00)
hi guys I read chris's comments on the future of music business e.t.c. Since he is professional musician there is no reason to doubt that what he said is true. Do you think guys that the same rules that govern recording music apply also to gigging? I remember one post from long ago. Somebody wrote that getting jobs as a musician has to do with knowing certain people. Well, I think this works in all areas of professional life. When you are...

There is gigging through a booking agency and then the gigging we do. We don't do the bars, honk-a-tonk, dance halls, etc any more. Most of our gigs come from word of mouth or monthly gigs we've been doing for years. Some are paying gigs, like fish fries, birthdays, club functions, street dances, local functions like the the Sweet Potato Festival or Iron Horse Days and then sometime we will ...

ya, now with internet there are some upsides and downsides for musicians as i see it.
in the past what was really good was you need a musician in order to hear music. but still the great ocmposers got the most cash. what ended up happening, is that poor people could only listen to music at your local pub, and the rich would teach their children to play their piano.
but the composers got ...

There's no secret scale that's magically going to make you sound good...
If you think your pentatonic solos all "sound the same" it's because you're playing the same thing. I know you like Jimmy Page, and he used pentatonics more heavily than he used heroin...countless classic rock solos are based on pentatonic scales.
Not the first time I've suggested it but I think you need to spend ...

Music Degree - How To Get There?
Hi,
I'm trying to plan a route to study for a degree in music. But I'm having trouble finding courses which can give entry to a degree. I never had music available for study at GCSE or A-Level, so I thought that would be a good place to start. But I cant find anything available for adults (23). ...

Help with a solo!
Hey guys, I learned dazed and confused recently and I'd like to analyze the solo. I was just wondering...
The sheet music doesn't have a chord that the band uses to comp in the background, it's just the riff you hear right before the solo kicks in, What should I play? How can I make it sound like pages but add...

as with guitar i would practice the major scale.
what's more tough with piano is that because of the black notes every key is a different pattern, and chords are different patterns also. same intervals, but because of the black notes it looks like different patterns.
it's probably easiest to start playing everything in C, or A minor. Just the white notes. but if you're going to be learning...

There is no gear forum on IBM because gear talk is forbidden at IBM
I haven't played guitars with scalloped fretboard much, but it was ok the few times I tested.
You can do a bit of finger vibrato by pushing the sting harder down. That is the main feature I've experienced. The same thing makes it difficult to stay in tune for beginners, or if you of any reason is pressing a bit to ...

This worked on my violin - I have 3 guitars with no strings. Put violin bow rosin really thick all over the edges of a nickel and pick with it on top of the strings diagnally and sideways like a bow. I liked diagnally. It seems really cool but I only played with it a little on a violin. I dont know why I never thought of trying that on guitar. I was flicking the wrist like rotation and it is ...

The footware of the drummer is fantastic. I was wearing things like that in the 80'ties. Good grief
Thanks for the video, though. I love it.
