New transmission? Why so expensive?
Published (2009-11-20 03:01:00)
I did not - it was jelly in the metal housing, very disappointing that it failed (but happy that I towed out a 3/4 ton ford up to the handles in snow) I used SGI - got it for 100. Unbelievable what they want new for a single mount. UPDATE - tranny bill came today - ready to pick up, final tally 3502.94 - HOLY f****n S**T. So much for the family fireplace this winter.

spongy brakes
Published (2009-11-25 08:53:00)
How often has your brake fluid been changed? There may well be corrosion build up if you have never bleed 'em before. On my '02 I bled the brakes after the first yr and then every 2-3 yrs after that (DOT 4). I have to honestly say they feel and work beautifully, better then many newer vehicles I've driven.

I just want a cleaned-up 87 and 91 tune for more power/econ as most seem to be getting from Torrie. All I request as an add-on is that the lockup schedule for 3rd gear be "tweaked" from the current 55 km/h under light throttle to about 45km/h. As most of my driving is 45-50km/h, the lower rpms will be nice to have. I've had it locked at 40 km/h in 3rd and it pulled nice while still responding to heavier throttle...

Try putting a load on the battery and measure the voltage - turn on all lights, radio, etc... If the voltage drops significantly, it has a bad cell...

It is very hard to get all the air out of the system with a gravity bleed when changing the master cyl. you almost always need a pressure or vacuum bleeder to move the air pockets through the lines.

I would suggest cleaning the battery terminals and cable clamps, in addition to the grounding point on the chassis.

I have the official Ford Powertrain & emissions manual for the 2005 Escape.Buried in the section on the DPFE is a little warning that nobody mentions. Immediately after fitting a new DPFE you must allow the KOEO at least 5 seconds to 'learn' the new DPFE. It states that if you don't you'll get P0402 again.
I presume the trucklet will eventually 'learn' the new DPFE in normal ...

Here's a photo of my 2005 Escape XLT Sport. It has factory flares on the rim of the wheel wells, and should give you some idea of what to look for.
The mud flaps are Husky and I've been very happy with them.

I have tried the Airtex and Standard brands, and wound up replacing them within 8-12 weeks. The Motorcraft replacement I have on now has worked flawlessly (KOW!) for 3+ years.

well anytime you have that kind of brightwhite bulb, your pretty much signing long-life bulbs away. ive never heard of those lasting more than a couple months. they burn so brightly and hot, that many times, they melt the connectors even if you did the install properly. My recomendation is, Dialetic grease, less than 2 bucks at an auto parts store. squeeze it into the connectors at the...

My Axle came out as one unit. Which doesnt really matter anyway.
Use a LONG prybar to pull down on the Lower Control Arm. It will make it easier to reassemble. Better if you had another to help line up the Splines on the Axle shaft to the Wheel Hub while putting the ball joint together. I did mine solo. But Help would have been appreciated.

Paint is an insulator not a conductor. grind the paint off around the hole or stud that you currently have used. Then, measure the voltage at the end of your power wire vs. your ground wire with a meter. That voltage should be very close to the voltage you see at the battery itself.
The best ground on the vehicle in my opinion is the rear backseat brackets, with the bracket ...
