From what I'm reading the looping problem is not the same as the stalled at 62% installed problem. Point me to the 62% stalled problem solution, please. I'm going to be helping someone do this and I have printouts of everything I think will help if something goes wrong.

Formatting the disc occurs at the beginning of the process, I assumed that the loop problem happenend a bit later. Most looping problems have occured at 62% of the completion. Try once more doing it my way If you cannot do this, I will tell you how to format prior to putting your DVD in the computer.

I will do a clean install of Vista. Doing the custom install did not work as it sent me back to the beginning. That was the loop. I hope to be able to get by that. Any suggestions about how I might get by the loop. A custom install should have done the trick but it didn't. Thanks, Deb

Make sure you are testing with a host name that really exists, and use something like ping rather than a browser to hit the address, to make sure there aren't any proxy settings interfering with the test. Did you verify that the same hosts file modification works when you are not using the router? In older versions of windows (pre win2k) there are settings to change the priority of DNS vs the hosts file. A reversed DNS/hosts priority...

I do not think that 7 is more difficult to use than Vista, but there is a learning curve. Because of the problems that people are having installing W7, freezes, endless loops, failure to install and BSOD, I have to agree with you. If the install process were a bit easier, not having such a time consuming clean install (time needed to reinstall all programs), I think that I would recommend W7, ...

I will try an uninstall of Firefox and clean install. I have to save my favorites and plugins first, maybe in a couple of days on the weekend I will try. None of the main Flash on CBC work, but the Flash ads seem to work ok.

Prior to renewing this time I was able to get the speed upgrade just for the asking. 3. Zero. Modem is included and do it youself Easy installation.
4. One year, Year Two will go to $40. per month (regular rate).
Verizon DSL is cheaper and a better deal.

Possibly, some of you, like me, do not like the new method, used by Windows 7, to bring up a second window. How about this handy trick? Put cursor on the explorer icon at the bottom of the screen, middle click and then, presto, a second window. Give it a try, you will like it. _________________ Richard
