TS3100 with native ntbackup
Published (2009-11-21 07:57:00)
I have grieve You. Microsoft removed from Windows 2008 ntbackup utility and new backup software doesn’t support tape drives at all, only backup to hard drive. You have to use third party commercial solution to backup to tape under Windows 2008. There is a special version of ntbackup for 2008, but it works only in read-only more.

OK, I removed both CPUs and memory and installed the original 1 GB from IBM and the 2.8 GHz single-core Xeon with 1 MB L2 cache that came with the server. The ServeRAID controller still fails exactly the same way. This is a bad day, really. :-( (And there's still the failing power supply and a failing SCSI drive.) The great era of xSeries 330 is gone. The world must have gone crazy since then. :-( If anyone's interested, here comes...

Disk aligning using a DS3300
Published (2009-11-20 14:48:00)
The problem lies with Windows which "steals" the first 63 sectors of a disk for its system data, starting the "usable" area of disk at sector 64, which messes things up. Most disks are organised with a 64 sector/track physical setup. With the Windows 63 sector use, almost every disk access has to access 2 tracks on the disk to complete. This overhead becomes more apparent when the logical structure of the disk starts on...

Memory Problems on an x236 server

Alexander, The server has the same problem what ever type of memory is in it. The problem seems to the same as another post by Rabih. I don't really think this is a RAM problem, something to do with the Server.

Update 2. Ok, the drives aren't recognised in the other servers. So either the drives are DOA or the windows based RaidMan software has limited functionality with regard to the LSI 1030 controller. I'm going to enter the bios level config menu and see if things behave any differently. The IBM manual mentions that certain options on the LSI 1030 are only available either from the bios menu or by booting of a ISO with the raid...

Booting from SAN with UEFI Server
Published (2009-11-20 07:23:00)
If you want to boot from SAN with a UEFI server, such as the x3550M2, x3650M2 or HS22 do you require EFI code on the HBA instead of a BIOS? If I need EFI code is it available for the QLogic Dual Port iSCSI adapter (IBM part number 42C1770, QLogic QLE4062C)? If I configure the server for Legacy Boot should it work with a BIOS on the HBA?

Hello Frank, and thanks for your answer :) well, does ur intellistation 6221 work fine? with how many GBs of RAM? About my ram, my new ram are PC2700, and the original ram are PC2100. I've now discovered that if I leave the server with the "Setup is starting Windows" message for about 30 minutes it finally loads and shows me the disk it can see. I can then create a partition on the disk, format it and copy the Windows setup files to it. But when the server reboots it will not boot from the disk. There does not appear to be any settings in the UEFI options to ...

Dear Peter, unfortunately systems DS4700 and DS3400 not supported for SLES11 x64 yet. Use any supported versions from compatibility lists: TotalStorage Interoperability matrices http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/product/int erop.html You can ask you local IBM representative about availability date.
