I got a cyberhome DVD-300 and used a hack from Video Help to make it multi-region. Plays PAL discs like a charm.

And HD is part of the ATSC standard. So in effect it IS federally mandated. You have to remember that HD is served over DTV. And by the way, HD is NOT just a resolution... It is a standard... one that also saw its own vhs vs. beta battle. That's why we have some...

I am hoping they use the alternate posters that I have seen surfacing lately for the US cover. [Reveal] Spoiler: I feel the talking Fox was really what tied the film together

Fascinating comparison, and it's obvious how much consideration has gone into the new translations. However, as Skuhn says, it's a tightrope walk, and while the MoC translation indeed is perhaps a little closer to the original, it still has the problem every translation necessarily has: it cannot wholly convey all the subtleties and connotations the original has. But that's no criticism at all, I wouldn't be able to come up...

I watched the Blu-ray last night - as expected, it looks and especially sounds absolutely fabulous, and grain fetishists will be in seventh heaven. (I can't imagine how ghastly a digitally smoothed-over version of what is obviously a 16mm original would look like!)

Honestly, it could just say "Mishima" with a pink cloud in the background, and that would be light years beyond the mirrored image massacre that is the current cover. Too fucking much of everything, right there.

Yeah I debated whether I should make a thread for this or not (I mentioned it in the new films in production thread) since there's no details, but I'll just more or less repeat what I said: My favorite currently working actress plus the writer/director who just realized his full potential with Margot equals one of my most anticipated new films.

Please do not clutter up the threads for MoC titles with information on pre-orders. You can announce the availability of pre-orders in the MoC: Cheapest Prices / Best Places to Buy / Pre-Orders thread. Any information on pre-orders posted in any other thread on or after 2/11/09 (or 11/2/09 to our European friends) will be deleted.

Their transfer of Ashes and Diamonds is superb (I think I heard they licensed it from Criterion), but the disc is otherwise barebones.
