Upgrading, but what path to take

i7 920 is the best you can get. You can get i7 920 for 200-300$ fine most likely. i9 is not out yet and will not be for quite a few months, plus it will be expensive, apparently.

Well, BIOS works, just operating system doesn´t.. it hangs when it loads "disk.sys". Bei Fei I assume you have D0? Right? If you have, can you test this, please? If you have G30 still on one chip, switch to it, clear CMOS (if you experienced A1 bug already - if not just go to BIOS via usual DELETE). Well if you cleared CMOS, go to BIOS, select Load optimized defaults, F10 and restart. It should work, at least that BIOS...

From what people are saying, I would give a big +1 to the above! Can Jor3LBR advise on how to get more 1.0 boards if possible? I'm not having much luck finding them. There's plenty of 1.1 boards available for some pricey international shipping :/ I reckon I could be biting at your heels if I get one of these beasts!

New cpu arrived - Xeon W3570 3847A696 with unlocked cpu multiplier First 5hrs with cpu. Quickie tests done and I must say these W3570 3847A696 are overclocking beasts! To be able to get screenshots and validation @4911-4966Mhz HT enabled with 1.45v bios (1.440v idle) vcore is crazy! Temp and vcore at 4ghz (1.184v) wise, it's pretty similar to my W3520 3845A935. I find that quite hard to believe but I guess Intel did the right thing, for once. If Intel wasn't being so childish and immature the first place to use illegal practices none of this would have happened. But I guess it worked out for both parties at the end.
