WEATHER EARLY AUGUST IN ROME!
Published (2009-11-06 18:50:00)
Here are the Rome average climate conditions from the BBC: pretty reliable. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/city_guides/res ults.shtml?tt=TT004000 It is not the temepratures themselves so much as being in a busy city in the heat. But if you pace yourselves appropriately (especially if you take the siesta Bill suggested) you will be fine. One excellent thing about Rome is that the water in the street drinking fountains is perfectly...

Travelling solo in Tokyo
Published (2009-11-06 07:15:00)
Tokyo has more than enough to see for a month, never mind a short week. What do you enjoy? Culture, art, shopping, discos, museums, castles or what? For a starter: Visit Niko and the lake + Kegon Falls Visit Kamakura and the Hachiman Shrine - biggest Buddha in the world there. Visite the Sensoji Temple with the 5 storied pagoda and the huge wonderful shopping avenue there. Lots 'n lots more depending on what interests you...

huh..i have to say im very surprised you dont seem to have ever heard of bullet trains (shinkansens). nozomi is the fastest (and most expensive), hikari is the one just a bit slower than nozomi, around 15 min slower but also cheaper, kodama is slow so i wouldnt recommend it. anyway hikari takes around 3 hours to get from tokyo to kyoto and they leave every half an hour/hour. so you can take an early train from tokyo to kyoto. i wouldnt...

Not sure about your travel ideas but certainly you can fly from Shannon direct to Glasgow (Prestwick) or Edinburgh (subject to dates etc) using Mr Michael O'Leary's budget airline RYANAIR. It continues to outperform other carriers and is regarded as one of the best airlines operating in Europe. You need to study the details carefully especially the baggage charges etc but it is all perfectly feasible and should be your first...

Just about anything by JM Coetzee and Andre Brink (South Africa). They write about the 'real thing'. Nelson Mandela's autobiography 'Long walk to Freedom' is one of the most fascinating accounts of South Africa and its history.

You can look at all the meets in this page: http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/ It's off the bottom right on the VT main page, small meetings link. From there look for the 6th European VT meet 28-29-30 May 2010. You may need to scroll to the second page if people post too many earlier meets. This is sure to be a fun event, and notice there are pre-meets scheduled in Vienna, and a post meet in Romania -but Krakow is the main event....

driving from Nice to St Tropez

" Since it is off season, is it easiest to rent a car ... "? I don´t understand the question. Do you mean easier to find the availability of a rental car during the "off season"? The answer is YES or NO. It is not certain what is considered the "off season" on the south coast. Here, in Sweden we´d consider the warm winter in Nice "on season" and we might rush down and...

Hello Linda. My husband and I really enjoyed our time in Cancun and one place that in my opinion is a must see is XCaret, which is an ancient Mayan Ceremonial Center south of Cancun. We did the day tour and were picked up from our Hotel. I remember the park as being wheelchair friendly with pavement winding through the Park. The Park is amazing with swimming, snorkeling, the Turtle Area and the...

I haven't used Public transport in Majorca - unless you include the old tram from Palma to Soller bur I did notice buses as we made our way round the island by car. Rake a look at this site

I wouldn't call it low season. Perhaps the end of shoulder season, but there were plenty of travellers around when we were there in July. The school holidays start in the last week of July, as I recall and things get really busy then.
We were there in the last week of June and the first three weeks of July, and it was quite busy. Kyoto was quite busy during the third week of July for the ...

Whilst you are waiting, why not just send the hotel and email to see if they are open (not to make a booking)?
If you get a reply, you'll know. If you don't, you won't have lost anything.
It certainly looks fully-functional from its website:
http://www.royalartcafe.it/
and maybe just does not need/wish to pay for listings on the larger booking agencies?
I have found it here:

Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, Munich, Prague, Rome, Venice, .... on and on - all have the same degree of risk which can easily be mitigated by taking some basic precautions. I have been in Lisbon twice, once as a woman traveling alone part of the time and never had any issues.

Hi Mauro, I don't know about Florence but read in La Presse, Montreal newspaper, that the Mayor of Rome was starting a campaign to improve Rome's image in the eyes of tourists. There were many, well-documented reports of abuse of unsuspecting tourists in restaurants et al this past year, enough to make the mayor decide to act.
I'm just speaking from memory, didn't pay too much attention myself...

Sorry to tell you this but if your son eats dirt or picks up stuff from the ground and then takes his hands to his mouth, he will get diarrhea even if you are vacationing at the fanciest resort in Paris or Germany or USA or Australia or.......................... you get my point.

Rain occurs all year round on this continent so you are likely to encounter some any time. No one can guarantee you sunny weather even in high summer.
How about temperatures? It will be notably colder than in June. Can you tolerate the lousiest condidtions of all - temperatures just above freezing point, rain and strong wind? Trust me, this is worse than anything below zero.

I didn't look it up, but if your hotel is in/near the Plaka you will have easy walking. There are a couple of ways in, but I'd walk around to the "main" entrance and walk up past the theater area to get shots of the "front" of the park area which will hide the museum in the back. Side shots of the temple to the virgins on the left and then from the back side looking from the museum upward ...

Naples is the closest airport.

(not just bus!).
It may be easier and cheaper to fly to Rome, and then take the train to Naples (quick, safe, very reasonably-priced). From there you can easily take the Circumvesuviana train to ...
