Guys, regarding old/older threads that have been reactived...I know it's really popular, loads of fun and in many cases fully justified, but... Before flooding the thread with calls for dead kittens and She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, do at least look at who reactivated the thread and why. Was it a Military/Defense Professional or Senior Member that was updating the thread with new information, new relevant questions etc? Is it a brand new...

Developing nuclear weapons have little to do with aspiring to become a big power. In the economic context, watch the Japanese or the Australians, in the military context watch the Canucks or the Germans.

Thanks Rusty. I think it would be proper to hand the next question over to Glyn as he got the aircraft type correct. I am willing to bypass the tonnage question as a mere anecdote.
Tophatter, the figure quoted is 300,000 tons of shipping, on the Royal Navy Historical Flight site.
It would be interesting to see what the most successful allied aircraft was against all axis naval forces, in ...

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.
'Why?' my daughter asked.
'Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and probably has germs,' I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total ...

Cost may be a factor. I don't have figures in front of me, but perhaps it's possible that it's more expensive to build an LHD/LHA style ship than it is to build an LPD?
Perhaps not cost of the ship, then cost of the aircraft?
Also, excluding vehicle space, what about cargo space?

Looks like the swiss are wisely nipping the problem before it festers and grows. It is clear every nation is going to have to make the same decision as western laws and cultures are not compatible with Islam and the intent to spread sharia law.
