Whats That hole under my air box?
Published (2009-11-28 15:11:00)
The aircleaner takes in air from the cylinder side, through the filter, then up the rubber duct to the carb or fuel injector. These bikes are only 50 CID, and that duct is about equivalent to an air duct for a FI car with 120 CID. So as far as capacity to move air from atmosphere to FI or carb, it is adequate. The real issue is the small air intake in the back plate of the aircleaner housing. There is a mod to drill holes per GMan instructions...

pop when accelerating 09 c90
Published (2009-11-28 20:59:00)
The C90 is designed to run 87 octane... +1 on the header bolts... I would still try 87 and see if you are getting the popping afterwards...

I bought this bike new 6 weeks ago. I took it to the dealer last week for the 600 mile service. They said there is no problem with the bike. What its doing is every now and then it makes a pop sound when I start off from a stop. Usually in first or second gear. Sounds like its coming from under the front part of the gas tank. Like the way an older car with no breather on the carb and it back ...

Although I have done valve adjustment on a Volusia and a C50, if there were a dealer around here that would do the job for $140, really do the job, not just listen to the engine, I would have them do it in a heartbeat.
If they tell you to ride the bike to their shop in the morning, and it will be ready that afternoon, you might want to look elsewhere for the adjustment.

Not real difficult to do but if you're not mechanically inclined and don't have fabbing tools I would recommend the Wompus rack. I've always made my own but I've got torches, welders, drill press, etc..............
Did the mounts for the Vulcan with just a bit of drilling and bending.

I am thinking of making a new set of lowers for my 05C50 this winter. I am working on a design. I have seen leather used a lot on bikes .... saddle bags, tank bibs, engine guard chaps, tool bags, etc. Has anyone ever seen leather covered lowers? What's your opinion?

This is the first I have ever head of that kind of problem. My first thought would be of a sort of inability of the tank to vent. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the gas tank cap has a vent hole in it, if that were to become plugged with corrosion, it may inhibit the fuel pump's ability to pump fuel as the fuel level gets lower.
Just some late night Fat Tire ...

That much for a burnt valve? I don't think so, they must be thinking of doing a complete overhaul.

Welcome to the site, pull up a chair, the beer is in the fridge....
I don't know the C90 that well but could it have come from the air filter area? Check the filter box, the oil may be coming from there.
I'll change your title so some of the C90 people may see it.
