removing the radiator

It's for my 65 hardtop, I'm not happy with the way it fits!! I should add that I had it made last year. Nobody in my area seemed interested in re-coring the original one. The alum cools great, but the mounting tabs are not exactly right which forced me to struggle with the install. _________________ It's gonna be cool when it's done 65 hard top

Refresh the tranny
Published (2009-11-28 14:24:00)
The TC has two drain plugs 180* from each other, so draining should be easy. The leak(s) looks like there coming from a nut where the linkage attaches to the trans. Is there a seal there where the shaft exits the trans that might be leaking? It also looks like the pan might be leaking as well. _________________ 1964 Black T-Bird with White Landua Top

Larry, Not sure if anyone already suggested but post this on the FE Engine Forum too. This is a much wider audience, which might help you find a referral. 'http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/' _________________ '66 Convertible, 428, in progress '04 Tan over Merlot

Removal of AC pump/hoses
Published (2009-11-28 20:41:00)
It is ilegal to discharge Ozone depleting products into the atmosphere anywhere in North America and most of the first world countries. The fines are big if you get caught could be as high as 50,000.00 Some of the smaller shops may recover and store the refrigerant for to be put back into your system, I belive in the US that this is legal where I live in Canada you can not recharge a system with R-12 the system must be retro fitted for the...

They charge like crazy for that R12. Perhaps someone can reclaim it and reuse it when you go to recharge the system. _________________ 1962 Roadster red/black 1962 Landau white/red 1993 Cadillac Allante factory hardtop Pearl Red 1993 Cadillac Allante factory hardtop Pearl Flax

OOPS!! One more thing, Larry. When you get your radiator out, that's a really good time to check your upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, and any/all belts. (power steering, alt.etc) A whole bunch easier to change without the radiator in place!! Jim

Taillight lenses
Published (2009-11-27 14:38:00)
1961 and 1963 taillight lenses are totally different and are not interchangeable. The 1961 Thunderbird uses a chrome plated potmetal bezel that surrounds the lens. The design used in 1962 and 1963 used a totally different lens and surround.

You should go ahead and remove the radiator and take it to a radiator shop. They can tell you if they can repair the one you have or recore it. Usually this kind of leak is where the core joins the sides. I think a recore will be really close to a repair and you may as well go ahead if the radiator has any age to it. _________________ '66 Convertible, 428, in progress '04 Tan over Merlot

Depending on where you live - I would take to an air conditioning expert and have them purge the system and store the old freon safely. Here is a link for details: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200710 10205304AABzHli Hope this helps. Graeme _________________ 1962 Hardtop - in Australia

Pete I have done a few of the cruise-o's, they are very simple. You don't need any special tools, just a couple of C-clamps and an awl or ice pick to get the old o-rings out. The shop manual has all the info for specs, you just have to read carefully to find them. I bought my last kit online for about $115. If it shifted good before, you should be able to give it a successful rebuild. Having said...

Quote: How difficult is it to remove the radiator on a 62 t-bird. All many bolts hold the unit in place. Larry Piece of cake....Most of it is removing the cover plate. From there it's removing the hoses and tranny lines and out she should come. John

So I'm looking at Thunderbirds on ebay.... And I noticed the Shift Indicator is different than mine. p.s.,I was first to post... The first pic is a '61 currently on ebay; (It's marked P R N D2 D1 L ) Here is a pic of mine; (I have the "Green Dot" style) Why is the shift indicator different than mine? Is it an "early" vs "late" build thing?

I think all the venders have seat foam sets, But you have to buy the complete set for one bucket. Then pay someone to install. I've seen them installed by T-Bird owners some looked good some not so good. Last one i did i just took the seat not the back to the local upholstery shop and let him do the bottom only. Came out great for about half the price

Its quite possible the color changed with heat and time, but usually darkens to a deeper red (if that makes sense). It definitely shouldn't be looking more orange than red as this is how Chebby red appears when the two are side by side. At a car show you will see several shades of Ford red, but all should be similar. I have had great results with the color and durability of the engine paint ...
