If you're making DVDs you should NOT deinterlace. Just encode as interlaced MPEG 2. The DVD player and/or TV will play the video properly. Deinterlacing may throw out half the temporal resolution and as much as half the spacial resolution -- depending on the source and the deinterlacing algorithm used. If you are making video primarily for internet streaming you'll want to deinterlace. The noise and sync problems in VHS caps makes...

If you have quite strong PC make sure to check "Best Quality" option. It will make something like 100Hz in modern TV sets. Thanks.

Philips 3980, 5140 and 5990 for starters. Look for them locally. They are cheap, easy to hack and convert between PAL<>NTSC. BUT DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST . Companies love to change specs for no reason at all.

Well when it comes to media streaming captures, you've just learned that "works for most websites" does not mean "works on all websites". In such cases your solution is to buy a streaming media capture program. The free ones aren't always good enough to do the job, so if you want to capture porn...

Dell offered the Mini10 for $199 last spring I think. One of my coworkers bought one and turned it into a Hackintosh. If they are running the special again I would assume it's going to be direct from Dell.

To do what you propose requires re-encoding.
You could use DVDRB and add an Avisynth filter or two to the filter editor.
For example:
FFT3DFilter(sigma=3,sharpen=0.3)
#Light sharpen and denoise
OR
FFT3DFilter(bt=-1,sharpen=0.7)
#Medium sharpen
For increasing color saturation, you could use:
#Hue from -180.0 to +180.0. Positive toward ...

As far as I know (someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure ), Xvid AVIs don't quite have support for chapters. Your player/extender doesn't allow you to cue through the video?

MKV is just the name of the container. It can hold any of several video and audio formats along with multiple audio streams and subtitles. But they are probably using the H.264 codec for the video. A program like MediaInfo can tell you what video and audio codecs are used.
You might try XviD4PSP . It seems to be able to accept MKV files and output to a IPod compatible format.

To save ... video must be re-compressed when applying filters ... depending on audio format it too may need re-compression (unless vdub supports it).
And save such documents in windows 2003 format or RTF rather than docx (2007)

A dual-core processor or better. A current PCIe video card with DXVA will do the job, starting at under $20 bucks. A card that specifies it is HDCP and Blu-Ray capable, they're really getting cheap now. So just about any current desktop with the above would do. Look at my computer specs (actually my HTPC built about a year ago). That's about the minimum necessary.
You can go up from ...

Like you say they all are priced similar and the drives are probably 5400 RPM at that price. The case SATA to USB2 circuitry or power supply are what fail most on these. Go with the one with the best name and warranty.
Most come unformatted so they can be used with a variety of OS. Others pre-format NTFS.

@ ernstblaauw - No, could you upload a sample of one of your mp3 files which doesn't work? Or PM me about where I can get it?
[Edit: I noticed that you know about avisynth coding. You can always export your slideshow as .avs and have a look how the loading of mp3 files is done. If you get some idears on how to load mp3 in a more bullet proof way... let me know and I'll change the code....

As it is your first post, I will make a couple of suggestions on how to post.
1. Using a big font wont get you noticed in a good way, or get you an anwers sooner. It will, however, annoyt the hell out people.
2. Starting out by saying that you have done no searching through the forums, but expect help, will not endear you to anyone.
That said, you at least appear to have ...

As far as Accuraterip is concerned, no it doesn't make a difference..Ripping to flac or other lossless format will result in identical data file(s) from the original CD tracks, when decoding/uncompressing them..Makes for a great archive..You can use the flacs in the future to convert to other lossless or lossy formats..
Think of lossless as you would a zip file..

What format (Codec) is your video? AVI is just a container name and covers many, many codec combinations. Some formats do not FF well.
You can drop one of the clips into MediaInfo or Gspot and post a screen shot of it here. Some codecs have keyframes widely spaced and you can only cut on a keyframe most times. Makes frame accurate editing very difficult. DV doesn't have that ...

I still use a Digital8 camcorder, during that time it costed 1500 euros.
I'm happy with it, for me it's even better then a new HD camcorder.
