I spoke to my surgeon twice on the phone, then for about 1 hour the day before my surgery at the hospital. I went to THI, and have absolutely no complaints. They are very professional, and have wonderful cardiac nurses. Good luck wherever you go!

Sorry about the hospital episode. Hope you are feeling better. As Al writes, get a copy of your echo reports so that you can post the numbers. Best wishes, Jim

Bob, I just want to underscore the importance of getting copies of all your reports -- results of all the tests and the like. You are entitled to those records -- they are yours. Sometimes, the medical world falls short in keeping old records, so if you have them in your archive, you are ahead of the game. As the years go by, it is very helpful to have the numbers for doctors to compare in detecting and tracking trends. In fact, I recently...

I'm curious about what Surgeon and Hospital you decided upon.
Did you ask this surgeon how much experience he had with:
BAV
Connective Tissue Disorders (how to recognize and treat them)
Surgery of the Aorta
and what were his outcomes?
Forgive me for being repetitious, but your issues are Complex and 'above and beyond' "mere" Valve Replacement. IF I had your issues, I would ...

I've been on prednisone now for about two years. I have polymyalgia rheumatica (muscular rheumatism). Lots of pain and weakness. When I couldn't get up out of a chair any more I saw my PCP who found my sed rate and C-reactive protein tests sky high. The next test was to give me 10mgm prednisone /day. If I had miraculous relief of symptoms , this would confirm the diagnosis of PMR. It did. Now ...

Well, as of Nov. 1st, I became eligible for Medicare Part A. I also carry BCBS of NM thru my retirement plan.
Now, in the past, before being on Medicare, I would order the INR test strips from QAS, they would bill my credit card & send me a receipt. I would then fill out an insurance claim form & get reimbursed by BCBS.
So my question to any of you that are on Medicare, will ...

Thanks everyone, we are going to CHOP (ooops childrens philly) around 1, so the surgeon/fellows can check it out (they are in surgery) Hopefully it is nothing or an old stitch, which normally wouldn't have me nervous, but last time we took him in for the not dissolving stitch, less than 24 hour later he was in surgery for a massive infection, had his muscle moved and 6 weeks of antibiotics, but ...

Hi Bob,
I am a firm believer in getting copies of any tests and luckily it costs me nothing. This point was driven home to me when I had my first CT scan a couple of years ago. My cardio's nurse called a couple of days later to say that everything looked fine but that I'd start having CT's on a yearly basis. However, when I got my own copy of the report it reported that I had a aneurysm ...

I've been on an ACE inhibitor (Lisinopril 20mg) for more than 10 years before my AVR and the symptoms (dry cough and post nasal drip) actually disappeared. Now after the operation they are back with a vengence. The cough is very noticible in the morning and dissipates by about 11 am.

your photo suggests you are a young guy, so mechanical is the way to go. personally, i also think on-x is the way to go.
maybe the on-x valve will offer the chance of lower/zero warfarin in the future, maybe not. but do not count on it; just be assured that taking warfarin is not a problem. it is not a "toxic drug". with home testing and a little comon sense, you can live a totally ...
