Haha I think you put too much time into that table and chair... You should have waited, I'm pretty sure they would have released those as props eventually.

Do we really need the scoreboard?
Published (2009-12-09 01:11:00)
For the people who care about their stats, I refer you over to the stat thread. Our issue, it seems, was an issue of semantics. When you say "playing for K/D" you are describing people who are playing to maximize their stats. When I say "playing for K/D", I mean people who are playing simply to get kills. I expressed my feelings on this on the first page. I'm fairly indifferent on the scoreboard issue....

Bit of a pain to defend if you have to guard two rooms just to secure both spawn and resource, but possible for the mappers yes.

QUOTE(Temphage @ Dec 8 2009, 09:03 PM) The stats exist to make you want stuff you don't even need. Making players feel like special individual delicate snowflakes? That's incredibly depressing that people need that. Im sorry You dont NEED to play computer games... We dont NEED art, music or poetry. Its nice to have them though. Wait... You want the game NOT to make you feel special? You want the game to give you...

Joining 2 maps (rooms) trick
Published (2009-12-09 11:09:00)
QUOTE(Xtof @ Dec 9 2009, 01:27 AM) You use a level where you design or gather all your (build) props in? Hmm... why not... I suppose the benefits are that you can easily pick them out and construct them in your level. Make blank map, start placing every prop straight down the list, align them up by categories, and enjoy. Certain mappers find these "prop levels" much more effective at picking out props than a...

Map Layout

it appears you can see through from your central bio-common Tech point all the way to the lava cave tech point; I think as a general idea you shouldn't be able to see (and thus shoot) from any one tech point to another... or maybe even any landmarked room to another. Editor Bugs
Published (2009-12-09 07:27:00)
Crashes of NS2 Spark Editor Build 127. Mostly Build 127 works fine. Generally if you are working with points and lines, join, cut delete it crashes. I think it is about guide lines. Sometimes they are being infinitive or something adressed to wrong adress by those things.

Basic NS2 Mapping Guidelines

I hope we get something to hide stuff from the commander view, like we did with func_seethrough. A special layer sounds like a great idea.

Female Marine Model
Published (2009-12-09 09:33:00)
QUOTE(Kittamaru @ Dec 8 2009, 09:30 PM) As such, no, the female marine armor can NOT be the same as the male marine armor... it wouldn't work and they would be uncomfortable and unable to move properly. Face it ya'll... girls are shaped different than guys... hell, to quote a now-famous Arnold movie "Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina." (Yes, I just dug up the daddy day care quote...) being in...

If you're going to play the game we in the US play, you've got to be willing to go it alone. We can make a more legitimate case for being in Afghanistan using 9/11 than we can for being in Iraq, but even at that, 9/11 was an attack on the United States, not the world. There have been terrorist attacks in other countries since, lots and very deadly ones even, but it's up to the country ...

Another suggestion, but might be a little much if the engine design is already said and done - I was trying to create a long hallway with many small lights at floor level... a pretty common sci-fi thing overall. Using a large number of point lights pushed the engine to a near crawl - is there a way to burn lighting into geometry to save some cycles? I imagine that the Spark engine doesn't ...

yes, of course. but i remember a description for the powergrid where they stated you cant in ns2. you have to go through each room and place at least an rt to connect the grid.

So every point needs either an RT or a CC? I wonder if the power grid is going to be shown on the minimap... (There IS going to be a minimap, right?)

I think it has it's place, but isn't a priority in any game except an MMO. Those are all number games and mouse click fests. I think at the end if there is a fun display like most kills and most xenos or whatever it's fine, and kinda funny sometimes, but yeah, overdone is like time taken away from gameplay and improvements/bug fixes.

Are the starting Marine Base and Alien Hive still randomly picked from the available Tech Points, or are there dedicated startling locations?

Very nice. It's interesting to see how people create maps, even though im not a mapper myself but looking at these videos, its tempting to pick it up.

And it should have been released on PC at the same time :( What I didn't like about ACI, is how you were virtually invincible despite being in a 1vALL THE CITY GUARDS situation. Also, the whole "go around the corner and jump in the haystack to vanish" thing. I saw the second half disappeared. The first one seems somewhat better too.

Since there's no rendering done for them, I suppose it's a reasonable assumption that they won't affect performance.. I usually delete any loose ends anyway, just in case. Plus tidiness.
