LED/Valve cathode bias? - Page 2...
Published (2009-11-08 20:17:00)
I think I get it... the Y is worked out by What current would be draw if 2k2 was dropped across 300V. the X simply states that it`s 300 V, and line is drawn between the 2 points. Then I look at the `g` line(s) that were there before we did the load line, and from those I can see what current gain will be had for every 2.5v increment. from this particular example we can infer that at just below -17.5v there will be little to no anode current at...

Hi. I think this one must have been used within the last five or so years, the deck was absolutely fine with all speeds and changer mech working fine, the only thing really is the mains transformer and the valve bases being a little bit dirty. The cabinet although slightly scratched and dusty cleaned up very well and a little polish made all the difference. I wll post a few pictures tomorrow, infact I brought it in tonight and played about 20,...

Some time ago there was an item that I saw *somewhere* on dragging the magnetron onto an amateur frequency. (2250MHz? Very long time since I've used my license.) IIRC the problem wasn't so much the frequency being shifted but getting rid of the excess power.

An expensive option to employ someone to do it; with the help from some on here you may be able to do it yourself.
What was wrong with it?
A good service of the mechanics and switching normally restores most functions.

Well, it's not the best of circuits, because the valve will only get 1.6V of bias or so. At this level of bias, a 6BW6 will pass a couple of tens of milliamps, which is fine for the LED.
If you remove the LED, the cathode will float up to its cut-off voltage, which may be a few tens of volts - enough to give you a mild belt, even if the current is limited.
Incidentally, the connectio of...

Hi,
New cases and cosmetic parts for 700 type phones occasionally crop up on eBay.
Also try asking at the THG site or the ITN Forums

Hi Tony,
Pretty sure they only came in cream and that the answer is no. It was probably done at the same time as the power modifications as you have already surmised. If Ever Ready did make the set in green then they must be very rare.

Hacker IF alignment help needed
I have a Helmsman RP36 which had poor sound due to if allignment -tunes oddly with more than one best spot on a station. The service sheet advises that the transformers shoud be adjusted to get a flat response i.e. not all tuned to 470 kHz. Is there a best way of doing this as there are a lot of choices in ...

This could be a number of things, so if you are to have a go yourself you need some fault finding skills. What skills do you have?
Is the faint sound from inside the radio or from the speaker. Sometimes a faint sound can be heard from insside the radio, but this is not really relevant. Does any sound come from the speaker?
It could be the Output Transistors, You could have a faulty ...

The Neutral wire to your house is shared with lots of other people. Imagine
it gets broken somewhere between your house and the substation. Where does
the return current from everyone else's house flow then? Through the
chassis of your radio and its mains lead. Now your local earth probably has
a dangerous voltage on it and the mains lead has probably caught fire.
That's why this arrangement ...

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the world of pre-war TVs. You say you are a complete TV novice so this is an unusual place to start. First and foremost - are you fully aware of the dangers of mains derived EHT? This is genuinely lethal. You don't usually get a second chance and we don't like losing forum members.
Do you have full service data? Forum member BrianC has done a ...

This sounds like mains borne interference. I had very similar symptoms a few years ago. The best approach is to go exploring with a transistor radio, both inside the house and outside it. Mains borne interference will generally be on your house phase, so you should hear a peak at roughly every third house as you walk down the street.
Unfortunately it's very difficult to get your electricity ...

I may have a spare EPROM in my spares box. Do you have an EPROM reader to do a checksum on the suspect EPROM?
I will look tomorrow & send you a message. My 1604 has a problem with Channel 1 i/p. Could you let have a copy of the schematics?
Will get back to you.

Try one of those cylinder shape low wattage (150w) space heaters, it won't
be warm enough to work in, but will help keep your collection from cold & damp.
