What Would You Have Done...

Hey B... Thanks for coming on here and sticking up for me. I love you so much and I am so thankful that if it wasn't for this website you and I would of never became friends. You have helped me so much on this journey and I cannot tell you what you have meant to me. So if anything out of this experience I have gained a friendship that is so precious to me. Just been really down lately. I am trying to keep steadfast and strong. Keep the...

Well, lady...you have my e-mail address, as does most everybody else who didn't feel safe to post on this board anymore.? Those who truly needed a soft place to fall, not this . I remember what all you've done to help your son (!), including so many of the same things?mentioned! I think my last thread showed there are a few of us still lurking..... and this thread shows why many don't bother anymore.

Your post made me think of one thing I WOULD do differently - have dd tested for ADHD sooner. We waited until she was in 3rd grade which sadly was too late. By that time in our small town she was already labeled a troublemaker in school and never recovered. As a result when dgd started showing the same tendencies I took her for evaluation IMMEDIATELY and she has been on meds since she was 4 years old. The result? She is now in 3rd grade (the...

If my ship was sinking, I would not be asking advice from people who were ALSO drowning, OR from people whose ships had already sunk.? I would be asking the people who had made it safely back to shore.

Therapy for 16 year old DD
Published (2009-12-22 17:59:00)
Wow. When I read the first part about you needing to die, I wasn't all that shocked. I used to say that about my mom when I was younger and in a rage, but the part about slitting your throat is more graphic and raised a little concern. I think it's good to have an evaluation by a psychologist. It's probably just her anger talking and her being overly dramatic, but better to be safe. It will at least get someone to discuss her...

Not much to add - you are so right about the destructive effects on the whole family - we also avoid taking about him to anyone, except in generalities -"He's saving his money so he can move out", etc. We are just so ashamed and embarrased - we have not made any effort to get to know the neighbors - sure they know anyway, since police cars have been at the house. We can only trust, pray and hope that SOMEDAY things will...

Therapy for 16 year old DD
Published (2009-12-25 06:07:00)
Well Therapy went great! DD was very open and honest!!!! I told her no matter what she will Never get in trouble for anything said in therapy. It doesn't mean I will be happy with whatever-it-is, but she can't get in trouble for it. She really likes her therapist! During therapy I found out this boy worships satan! OMG, I knew he was a "dark" soul, but I really didn't expect that. She broke up with her boyfriend the...

Teen's Attitude SUCKS!!!

Long update but any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Well, I'm back - over 2 months later and not much has changed.? The psychiatrist said that DD's depression is better.? I'm not so sure I agree and have a call into the psychiatrist and DD's other counselor to discuss these issues.? He also started her on Strattera again for the ADD about 4-6 weeks ago.? I'm wondering if the Strattera is countering the...

Well I guess?you can thank God (or yourself) that you have now gotten your TT under control.? Do you think?it's possible to lend your services to the rest of us?? I have to tell you that your response to dillinghams post was (in my opinion) totally out of line and dowright cruel.? Gena you and I have been round and round with our boys and I know that we are all just doing the best we can. We come here to get support from the others who...

The only thing that I would have differently is to have gotten my dd tested for ADD/psych disorders back in elementary school or junior high. **Maybe** it would have made a difference, or maybe it would have just added another layer of things to struggle with. The way things did play out was that she had to get pretty close to bottom before she was willing to make any changes, when she was 19 yo. The maturity that comes with getting a little...

Do you REALLY want an answer to "What Would You Have Done Differently?" or do you just want someone to say, "You poor baby"? Read on only if you REALLY want an answer... What would you have done differently? Since the next poster has informed me you would NOT really want to know, let me just say this... wilderness camps, military school, church groups and even counseling do not cause a ...

Dad,
Wow, you have been put thru the wringer. I am so sorry. Do drugs have anything to do with your S's behavior? Ours is now 18 and has been an addict since age 14. He spent a year at a residential treatment facility in FL and SEEMED to have graduated with a positive attitude. But of course he has since relapsed.
Your S seems to have some major mental health issues, and I ...

Hey lady,
I'm glad you dropped in to update us!
I can imagine it's hurtful how your oldest son treats you. His "friend" sounds like a real piece of work... sheesh.
Your youngest son sounds like he's got it going on! Our sons have their long hair in common. I sometimes wonder just how long B is going to let his go. It's already about halfway down his back, and he's got a long...

Be a little firm. Let him know that, when you ask him not to do a certain thing he shouldn't do it. If he threatens you to leave the house let him do it. Where will he go. He has to come back when he realizes its a scary world out there & that he is safe around you. Try the different parenting styles it will help....
