what to bring the Host on Christmas
Published (2009-11-09 05:17:00)
Well, not really. The French don't really drink whiskey. If you were headed to England or Ireland maybe.........(would't even bother bringing it to Scotland, they make over 400 kinds of Scotch there and would be OFFENDED; yes, I know JD is not Scotch, but it wouldn't interest them in Scotland!!) The French do not drink spirits like Americans do. They drink aperitifs, digestifs, wines, ports, cognacs, armagnacs (which can fall...

Yes, who knows? There could be a third time. You never know. I do intend to do some driving around on the South Island. I never intended to climb Uhluru, but I did intend to do the walk around it if I had gone there. Air connections are really only convenient to Uhluru from Sydney, so that figured on it getting the axe. Maybe I will get an exchange in Sydney sometime. I did stop there for 5 nights the last time before I started my home...

Hello, I'm sorry I can't give you any specific answers on this. I would suggest first of all a letter from you doctor. I would probably contact the airline you are flying and also United States Customs. Perhaps these can give you some advice. If you used a travel agent, possibly he/she would know exactly how to check this or can point you in the right direction. Sincerely, Host Ciao Italy Board Moderator

Kyoto-eki kanko annaijo will direct you to the many ryokans around the eki. If you can afford it, I'd recommend the reasonably priced businessman's hotels (they are for men and/or women). Then to be smallish rooms but you only sleep there, i.e., you spend the other 16 hours out of the room touring around. Check out the Lonely Planet's book
on Kyoto. They will most likely have both ryokans ...

Hi again
I'm sorry I've been a bit late in getting back to you but my internet kept dropping out.
Wow another home exchange - how great is that??? Where abouts will you be staying in Melbourne? Home exchanges sound like the way to go, unfortunately mine is about an hour out of Sydney so I don't think it would be as popular as one closer to the city.
Anyway, back to ...

It's not necessary to get Yen prior to your trip. There's an ATM machine at the airport, located a short walk from baggage claim.
You can also use your credit card. Even if your cc charges you conversion fees, it's still cheaper than going to a currency exchange.
If you must pay cash, you'll need anywhere between $12 and high $20's to get downtown Tokyo (1 - way).
Food isn't as ...

My daughter is going to Japan on her honeymoon. Her hotels, most transportation and a few meals are already paid for. How should she pay for any purchases, meals, etc.? Should she purchase Yen before her trip? Will she need Yen, or can she just use credit or debit cards? Since my husband and I are paying for the trip, we want her to be prepared. TIA

fly on Sansa airlines. It's the only way to go and such an adventure also. the drive will really tire you out and then you won't feel like you are getting everything out of the OSA experience.

According to my pal Wikipedia, Qantas is the only airline that flies to Ayers Rock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayers_Rock_Airport And it doesn't look like it flies directly from Melbourne, ugh.
But it looks like you could take Tiger Airways to Alice Springs Airport, which is farther away. http://www.tigerairways.com
Hope that helps a little -- such an exciting trip!

Do you really need to go to a third place? Just stay in each place a week.
If you really want a third location (and I assume you will be traveling during school holidays), why not go to a beach along the Atlantic for a few days. I live in the DC area and I used to take the kids to Rehoboth Beach when they were small. Ocean City, MD, does, however, have more "action" if you want that.

Hello,
It sounds like you will have a great trip. However, my first comment would be that it would be a shame to be in the area of Lucca and not go to Florence for a day or two.
The hiking in the Cinque Terre varies. One trail is very easy, the one between I believe it is Riomaggiore and the next town toward Levanto. It is called the Walk of Love or some such title because of a legend ...

Hello,
When you say staying in Chianti area, I'm not sure whether you mean in one of the many small towns or out in the country at a rented villa or agriturismo. I have never done the latter so I can't help you with transportation to and form that type of place. If you are staying in one of the small towns, most have train or bus connections that your hotel/ B&B or whatever can help you with...

Wow, what a big group! Must be a logistical nightmare to arrange.
Honestly, I think either a resort or a cruise ship would work fine. Neither one is truly "all inclusive" -- usually at a resort you'll have to pay extra for certain activities, drinks, etc., while on cruise ships you have to pay for shore excursions, drinks, etc. You need to look closely at both options and figure out ...

I haven't been to Europe in a few years, but I surveyed a few friends who have and they told me that this can indeed be a problem, particularly if you're trying to pay with a debit card (because the chip takes the place of our PIN). They said that if you ask for the card to be swiped and run as a credit card, you should usually be okay.

I've never used skyauction.com, but I agree that not responding to your emails within two weeks does not bode well -- I mean, what happens if something goes wrong with your trip?
Do they have a phone number you can call at least? If not, I'd say heck with 'em; there are plenty of other places where you can find cheap tickets AND some level of customer service.

Who knew that counting bells would be so hard. Everyone else got it why not the beauty queen contestant? As for the girls (Poker players) they just didn't eat their Wheaties. Oh well. I'm finding the Harlem Globetrotters amusing. LOL

I voted for nothing -- because I tend to not travel with too much cash, for one! However, I have purchashed (and would still do so if more lines offered it) the in-flight Wi-Fi access.
