Well, I picked up the 4runner today. A few issues that popped up (the beginnings of some sub paint rust in one spot) but all in all a very clean truck. Turned out to be dark green instead of dark grey, which I was glad for. The interior is pretty spotless. I was bummed about the rust spot, but I was able to get the seller down to $1250 with that info. Hopefully it won't be a big problem to fix the rust spot. Kinda odd....I looked at 2...

still looking for it. I have seem to have quite a large oil leak. I think its coming from the front of the engine down low. I really need to get a turbo on there as its kinda slow with the 31's.. Ill keep you all updated.

85 22RET Pickup To 1KZ-TE 5spd...
Published (2009-12-01 14:27:00)
Nope button doesnt do it. I went as far as taking the old oil temp sensor out of the 4wd front diff that im not using and wiring it up, still nothing. The speed sensor wire, plugged in or pulled out, still nothing. The front 4wd detection switch wire isn't going to anything. Is there something I should do, ground the wire? I think my problem might possibly be the transfer actuator switch. Does anyone have troubleshooting specs for this?...

Exhaust - well, catalytic really
Published (2009-12-01 20:29:00)
No math major or anything, but my buddy was doing up some numbers for a exhaust upgrade on his Suki. As you can see its a large difference in area (and the amount of air passing through) as the sizes increase. The difference between 2in and 3in is far larger then you would think, its over twice as large. I'd go with the 2.5in pipe. I doubt our engines create enough wind to even fill it haha. My buddy runs 3in on his 12v cummins, and it...

Exhaust - well, catalytic really

Wow. Hope I don't ever need to register in Az (have lived there before). Anyway, anyone know what size is recommended? Think I'm just going to chuck it all since its 2". Is 3" overkill? The exhaust guy this morning told me 2.5 is enough & 3 won't buy me anything unless it was a V8 w/big headers. But I want the best efficiency & performance.

1VD-FTV TT into A FJ 40

Its not going to be easy. The 7* series landcruiser had to have the chassis rails widened for the engine to sit low enough to close the bonnet. Then you have the electronic side to deal with..

There are a few different potential transmissions that came in that '94, some of which didn't have a removable bellhousing, so the bellhousing is anything but a sure bet.
Also, you should probably go ahead and start looking into adding a turbo to that 2L.
Glad to have you around

I'm quite sure that you would want a KZN185 for that vehicle. Switched a bunch of stuff that year if I remember correctly.

1. Yes, just make sure you get the engine, and UNCUT engine harness (cut chassis is OK), the front chassis harness (includes fuse block and glow plug wiring, not in the engine harness). Other kindof optional stuff, but WAY easier if you can get it: shifter assembly if auto, radiator, air cleaner assy, crossmember, 4wd computer. It'll save you having to lay out a bunch of cash finding the parts ...

Well before I take and click the vote button you meaning how many I personally have driven it or how many are on the odo? My truck right now that I did the diesel swap in is at 445000kms. Grandfathers 92 yota V6 pickup is at 285000kms. My old 82 runs like a champ at 252000kms. But as I' m 22 I can't really play very well in this game for personal mileage.

Have a look here in my thread. scroll down to post 105 and read the next two posts. I found the water pump through a company here in the states called rock auto. The water pump is a QUINTON HAZELL Part # QCP3356. The company meets OE requirements.
I didn't end up replacing the water pump so I cant vouch for it, but it seems worthwhile.

Can you post that old picture again? I know the direction of flow is important to a lot of people.
And just for the record, I'll have to pass on this.. already got my IC installed and working.

Right now I am in a rush to get out the door so I will post prices later, until then make an offer.

I thought this only happened with my motor. Mine does exactly that same noise when going down a hill but keeping enough throttle on it to just keep the speed. Kind of a rattling pinging sound. Exactly as you describe. I'm in the same boat only my motor has more kms. Have no throttle plate or EGR anymore either but it did do this before the throttle plate was removed. The EGR was taken off ...

Exhaust - well, catalytic really
Hey there. Got a first gen 4Runner conversion. It's got the straight (2"?) gasoline exhaust I bought it with, and with glass packs I think. I thought the p.o had removed it, but the other day looking under there saw what I'm pretty sure is the gas catalytic (I'm totally green with exhausts, but ...

Very nice! You will love that engine! When I unwrapped my engine I was lucky to find may transfer case all smashed in... either got smashed when removed from the truck in japan, or someone with the forklift smashed it in... so ya there is always some back luck with these engines i guess... lol
I like that paint job as well. The 1KZ is gonna give that truck some fun power!

i'm running 31's and stock height on my 84.. i think it looks good, but then again, i've never been a fan of big tires, and huge lift... do you what gearing you have? that's something to consider when getting small tires too.. just curious what is your mileage like right now?

Well that is good news! I just picked up a used set of 4 x BF Goodrich – Trail Maker Plus, on rims the other day for a really good deal. They have aftermarket (?) studs too so they should be sweet in the winter. Is this the same as the AT you are referring too?

There are 2 large plugs in the area of the ECU that mate the engine harness to the chassis harness. On my swap I integrated things there, which required swapping a significant number of pins on the JDM engine harness side. Your issue is that with the different generations of truck, I'm pretty sure the plugs and pins don't mate up. Also, I'm not sure if your '87 had made it to the point that ...
