I think you had it right. VW in LF and Snider in RF all because of arm strength. I really think VW's body would hold out much better in LF and we need his body right so he can resume his position in the middle of our line up. Right now the way he is hitting he's like a 7 hole guy.

No, I think you took that from my post and I wasn't certain at first. You just have to have written consent from the player.

Yeah, no surprise. That said, it didn't help that a lot of our pitchers and Snider have graduated to the big leagues.

I'm not sure about the # of teams that would be willing to give up 2 draft picks for a guy like Frasor who isn't a bonafide closer. If however, he turns into that bonafide closer this year and the Jays use him that way in order to make sure his value as a Type A is something for other teams to consider, I think you'll see him and Downs moved at the deadline rather than going into Type A status

"As far as needing speed and defensive ability I am of the belief that it's no harder playing RF than LF aside from needing a better arm in RF." Yes the arm is the biggest asset you need in playing RF over LF. But you also need a brain playing RF. You need to know when to hit the cutoffs, meaning you need to pay more attention to who the hitter/base runners/your own IF'ers are in relation to speed, arm strength...

Red Sox Sign Scutaro
Published (2009-12-03 22:55:00)
I was hoping that Scoots signed with a club that was at the very least mid-pack or an outside squad hoping to make the play-offs so we'd get better picks. If they sign Holliday, etc.........we lose out. This news kind of blows, but was to be expected.

Blue Jays offered Scutaro 2 years

"and really it would be more underhanded to sign him and THEN tell him he's gonna get stuck in LF... Or you know, tell him he'll be the starting SS and then take that away from him a couple weeks later (a la JP to Johnny Mac a year or so ago)." For someone that's thinks he's so f'n smart, you dont know much. You dont sign Scutaro, you offer arb and he accepts or declines. I also find it funny you call...

Whats it matter on here, thats what I would want if I were AA so if you think it no deal well good for you. PHI will dominate the NL and never win a WS, you settle for that.

I don,t know many teams that will give up a draft choice for a relief pitcher, unless of course he,s a top notch closer . Braves did for Wagner ? but they hope to get back for their guys . Not likely ! So just make sure the prospect is a decent one . As I stated this is all about development and not about money . If we can,t get something good for him keep him , but if he,s a type A and we offer Arbitration we,ll wind up with him accepting...

I saw us as 30th on another site. Yikes. Of course there will be those who feel they have a better grasp of the farm systems than BA and dispute the ranking but no matter how you slice it we need to build it back up. I'm not sure how plump the draft is this year but we sure do have a mitt full of early picks to improve on that ranking.

beat me to it!! ESPN is reporting it as well... nice to see we'll get the 2 picks which brings our total up to 8 in the 1st 100. Hopefully we can snag one more with Barajas!

maybe? if we wind up with a really young staff sans Halladay we might need someone with experience who can spot start. not sure if his starts last season were a fluke or not either - so might be good to sell high. i mean, if it's a good package - maybe some young talent; why not? but i have a feeling the D-backs might not be offering too much here (if it's true).

Well in this situation I think you need to note that he is talking about defensive stats which are controversial in how accurate they are.

Wouldn't that be the equivalent of trading picks which isn't allowed ?

Hurley, Is it the one where he mentioned that the Jays inquired about the Yankees "four" ( Jackson, Hughes, Joba, and Montero). Yeah its a good read but would like to hear more about it.

Everytime i think about jays relocation I get so depressed even thinking about how our franchise could turn into the expos situation a few years back. Do you think in a couple years if the jays keep on losing will this team be a serious ...

yeah JP really blew that one. He had to know what (around) he would be asking for. But the past is the past. I'm excited to see what AA's drafting style will be like. He sure has a lot of picks to work with this year. I also hope he is not afraid to go over slot like JP was. You can beef up scouting all you want, but if you don't shell out the cash for the players you like there is no point....

why on earth would he approve a deal to the Angels but not the Dodgers? Lame. Dodgers have some great prospects.

Is this speculation or based on something? If so, thats great. It feels like the Rays have great prospects AND theyre not the Yankees or Sox.

I'd disagree. I thought it was rather poorly written. Its a good topic, because there has been a lot of shyte thrown out there about Halladay, but the man really isn't a very skilled writer. It doesn't read very fluidly

For those who somehow don't know Doumit earned that contract by hitting .318/.357/.501 in 431 AB in 2008, so there is definitely some offensive potential there. I couldn't tell you much about his defense though, it would be awesome if someone could fill us in.
