For budget Panamericana or Ormeno Bus up the Panamericana off and on go all the way to Bogota Cartagena even Venezuela with the time and $ the cheapest way to go. Amazon/Tres Fronteras route you have to go back to Lima and 2 expensive flights plus boat costs $$$

The city won't be "closed", but a lot of smaller shops and restaurants will be closed for a day or two around Christmas. You can still find plenty of places to eat, but make reservations well in advance and be prepared to pay a supplement for the holiday service.
