The ultimate 8bit system and OS?

One of the UK systems that impressed the heck out of me was the RAIR "Black Box". A friend was importing them into the US and selling them. I almost bought one. It's strange that I don't see the system mentioned in this forum. Was there something about it that I should have been told?

The ultimate 8bit system and OS?

I suppose if you have enough RAM and a network interface, you could run Contiki on your PET 2001. The cc65 compiler has or should have PET among the targets. But as mentioned, compiled C results in rather large executables so 32K is probably the absolute minimum. If you have a 64K expansion and code to handle bank switching...

That certainly sucks. He also mentions they've been handled for scrap not re-use. I actually saw a fairly disappointing Dirty Jobs on tv a few nights ago where he went to a recycling factory. Ya kinda realize how the people scrapping it don't know how to take it apart or care, it's crap to them and however they can pry, pull, bend, break things out of the case they do. I'm a bit surprised at the price already though.. 3...

Haha, I am obsessed with images of filthy PCs. Here is a link of some good ones. There is a picture there that I had happen. I was fixing someone's computer for them. When I got around to working on it I found some dead roaches inside the case.... I almost puked. Last thing I want is my house infested with the creatures. i'd love to have a machine like that, it'd make a fantastic server setup with a good hard drive upgrade. i personally can't really drop that kind of money on it but i'm sure there would be many many people on here and otherwise who would consider the purchase.
when i say fantastic server i mean as in both network storage as well as a medium scale website that uses PHP and SQL. it wouldn't hold...

For the Apple IIgs it would be a rare Transwarp II accelerator. Rare, powerfull, and still usefull.

There is not really enough information here to answer the question. Is the hot (from the power panel) wired to the switch or one of the lights? What color wires are wired to the swtch and each lamp? How many white/black pairs are in each box? Do you have a meter?

I put together a C128, dual 1571, 512K RAM expansion, 1351 mouse, and 80 column capable monitor to try out GEOS 128 V2. No way I am paying for a SuperCPU (which you kind of need for Wheels or whatever the last version of GEOS is called).
Some people have rigged up Timex 2068's with floppy drives and other attachments, but they are rare. Upgrades for the 8 bit Apple II series are more common,...

If the tape drive turns on/off when it's supposed to then replace the 6510 CPU.

It's a monochrome screen - you can't change that. One of my favourites actually! The CGA mode is just an emulation.
The e model uses ide drives whereas the others ...

You can allways use Casette basic, but you problably don't want that since the XT don't got a casette port.
If you have an older version of PC-DOS availble, there is some files called BASIC.COM and BASICA.COM. You will have to use those to enter Basic. Since you got more than 64Kb, you woud prefere to use BASICA.COM.
In those programs, the command "system" will return you to DOS.

Nov 8 - Nov 11, 100 views and no interest yet.
Am I over priced? Are there not many Southern California
collectors? Should I split the IBM PCs & XTs from the 286, 386
486 computers?
I know there would be more interest if I shipped or broke it
down into single items. I just want to get rid of it all for the
most I can.
It is sad, but it looks like all these vintage computers...

I believe the video RAM consists of two 2114 chips; I'm also pretty certain that I have some, but I'm not at home at the moment so I can't confirm. I'll have a look when I get back.

If you skip the setup program on the dos install disk, you can still run sys.com from the disk to create DOS 5 boot disk, or sys the HD and then continue a normal install.

301 is not the amount of RAM, it is an error message stating there is a problem with the keyboard. Is there any other numbers after or before "301"?
The IBM 5150's don't display the count when it checks the RAM at all, they didn't start doing that before on the XT's. Because the amount of RAM is set by switches on the motherboard, the 5150 doesn't even need to count the RAM.

The fact is that there are still a few businessmen who eschew fashion and take a pragmatic approach. It doesn't take much to keep inventory, or write invoices. I have a friend who has plenty of modern computer power for browsing, the kids use, etc, who runs lotus on a 286 for his business. He likes it because it works well.
I'm just waiting for the day when he hands the Tax Dept a 5 1/4" floppy...
