Bryan, Are you a proponent of slotting? Is it something you would recommend doing on a brand new high end Martin as soon as they got it, simply as a rule of thumb? Thanks, Dave

I really like koa on small instruments and not so much on larger ones. On larger instruments it sometimes sounds dead in comparison to hog or RW at least to my ear. My D-37K is coming back Monday from a neck set. I'm anxious to play and hear it. And yes that is a beauty. -Lee

You know, they have found mummified caucasians buried near the silk road in central asia with plaids buried with them or the clothing was plaid. These graves/mummies are quite ancient. Makes you wonder. Maybe Dave has some relatives in China?

Original case question

Technically, you have to question what is "original"? I think 66's were shipped without cases and the cases were supplied by the jobbers and often varied as to manufacturer. Martin didn't supply cases until the blue cases in the early 70s as far as I know.

It's a good illustration of the danger of relying on a drawing instead of a real neck. IME, necks don't all work like that. As I've previously said, passive truss rods, single action, and double action each influence the neck differently. That's not a bad illustration of a passive truss rod, but a single...

they do not have everything, maybe a bit of discrimination going on, but I did not see a plain pine box.

I'm pretty sure the repairs to the side damage could be done better. I'm kind of confused though. Are they patches or mostly the original wood? the inside shots imply the later, but the outside shots look like poorly matched patches.

David,
You're so very right-all significant economic situations should be factored into a decision to lay out cash for a major vintage purpose. Don't buy it
if you can't afford it!
Tom,
I wished we would have had more time to talk on Sunday. I was glad to get to spend a little time with Bruce and exchange some Skip James tunes with him and
Larry Wexer. Bruce bought a J 35 from my ...

Well I find myself amongst the philosopher kings, reading all sorts of assertions, every single one of which is as provably true as any other.
What I'm saying, until you guys recognize the difference between belief systems and actual observations, this thread will soon dissolve into name-calling.

I've got a DVD player that has a red LED that that indicates that it is OFF
That must be a standard feature on newer TV's because all of our HD sets are like that. The logic in it escapes me.

We don't like clutter either. If only Mrs Molasses and I could come to an agreement on what is clutter. So far, it seems to be my stuff, but we've only
been together since '82 or so.

I just ordered those same pins from Bernunzio to use on my D-16M. The original slotted black plastic pins on this guitar
are almost "C" shaped from 20 years of having the string ball yanked up against them at an angle.
