Taking the plunge on the D90.......
Published (2009-11-07 10:17:00)
/offtopic As far as Ken Rockwell goes, I appreciated his information when I started getting into photography more. For one, it didn't make me rush out and buy a bunch of stuff I didn't need and two. In order to appreciate his views you have to understand why he writes what he does (which he tells you as well)... he has a different style, and his views are based 100% on that. /offtopic

Cameras For Dummies

Welcome to the forum. What you want is a Digital SLR camera (DSLR)....and not an 'SLR-Like' or 'bridge' camera. It might be tough to get a new DSLR for $500...but it might be possible. You could get a decent quality used one for that, no problem. Buying a digital SLR: Guides: Learn: Digital Photography Review I'd suggest looking at the entry level models from Canon or Nikon. That's the Rebel series for Canon or...

My All Time Favorite Lenses -...
Published (2009-11-07 09:04:00)
The Nikon 85 1.4 lens is my favorite lens....It is funny though... I use my Nikon 70-200 vr more because of it's versatility.... But when it comes to pictures that I really like... It is all about the 85 1.4. the nikon 28-70 f/2.8. Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 and the 14-24 f/2.8 are all great lens too...I sold my 14-24 though because it would not allow for filters. Cheers, Joe

I have a bag for mine but I only use it for storage..
What I do to carry it is used a old camera strap. I put a key ring on both sides
and a small climbing hook on the tripod by the head. on the bottom of the tripod
I make a loop around the legs. works great for me
I have a shoot at noon. when I'm done I'll post a few photos to show you what I'm talking about.

See what suggestions you get, but I may be willing to sell you my 18-250. It's been a wonderful lens for me but I recently got the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 and Nikon 80-200 f/2.8.
I'm still uncertain if I really want to sell it because it is such a great all in one lens, and it's a freak copy to boot.

I'm still relatively new to this, so take my C&C for what it is, uneducated and probably not incredibly helpful.....
Really love the vantage point, however I think there was just too much PP done (don't know exactly what to call it, but the colors just seem too unnatural) is there any way you could post the original?

Is this something that will be on going or a one time job?
If it is a one time job, just rent a good set of lights for a day or 2.
If it is ongoing and you want to keep doing this kind of work I would look into a set of lights, something like Alien Bees or similar.
As for the background, white seamless paper would work well, and does not cost a fortune.

Your best option is going to be the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 and the 70-200mm F2.8 VR. They are expensive, but you won't need to upgrade later.
You could go with a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 and a Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 and save a considerable amount of money...but you may always have that nagging feeling of wanting to upgrade to the Nikon lenses.
Add the 12-24mm for an ultra wide angle lens.

The white in the top right and top center draws my focus away from the leaf. When I scroll on my computer to hide the white the picture looks fine.

Just buy it, you know you want to. Putting it in your cart 3 times a day and then taking it out... over and over for the next few weeks or month is pointless. You obviously want it bad enough to engage in this silliness... treat it like a band-aid. Yank it off. Just click submit and enjoy your new toy. You're going to be miserable until you do.
You don't need our affirmation to be a gear ...

OK from what I can tell the newer lenses have the VR feature, and when the lens zooms it does so internally making it less bulky?
I have a friend who can get me the D90 with the kit lens which is 18-105 at cost, but can't get me the body only. So the best price online for the body only from a reputable dealer seems to be from B&H photo. The price difference is about $250 and the lens that ...

1. Kinda works, but there's really nothing to lead me into the photo. I see the subject then my eyes wander to find something else to look at.
2. Seems a little blurry, did you use a tripod? I'd guess no since you were no your honeymoon... I like the colors but the poles distract from the scene (at least for me).
3. Yep, that's an island. Nothing real 'wow' here...
4. Composition on this...

Gray cards
Any of you guys using gray cards? Like for example, if doing an onsite shoot, are you guys shooting 1 frame with the gray card before starting a photo shoot of whatever it may be?
I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra frame and few seconds that it takes to pull the card out, shoot the frame, then save the card....

35mm = EF
APS-C = EF-S
"Meant for full frame" is a bad choice of words, since any EF or FX lens can be mounted on any Canon or Nikon APS-C camera, respectively.
