Six Players Participating ???
Published (2009-11-27 20:18:00)
IAABO 2009-10 Refresher Exam #50. Substitute B-6 enters the court while the ball is in control of Team A and while the ball is live and the clock is running. The officials are unaware that Team B has six players in the game. B-6 returns to the bench after which Team A commits a violation. The scorer now informs the officials that Team B had six players on the court. The referee rules that no technical foul can be charged. Is the referee...

Best of luck fullor30! Certified is the highest level in Illinois for those who don't know. Before I took mine (before the test was online) I was able to dig up some old Part II exams with the help of Tony (BktBallRef). I just went through those as if I was actually taking the test then scored my exam. It gave me a good idea where I was a little weak (i.e. court and equipment) and I studied Rule 1 a lot before going. Again, good luck!

In the Marquette - Xavier holiday tournament game today, it appeared that one of the officials was wearing a HS jersey. There were no thick stripes down the sides. Also, he (and not the other two) had an American flag patch on his left sleeve. I just thought it was a little odd.

Watched this entire game last night. It was entertaining, but clearly showed that the NBA has it's own rule/case book, it's own standard for officiating excellence, and that the NBA game has little to do with basketball ball as most of us know it. There was another play where Paul Pierce was the classic defined airborne shooter, was clearly fouled and didn't get the call. I'm sure Toronto had ...

According to 3.3, the sixth man becomes a player when the ball becomes live. Also according to 3.3, he does not become bench personnel until he has a sub or we notify the coach he has been disqualified. Can we infer that even though the sixth man left the floor, he is not bench personnel until the next live ball? If so, the question & answer match. Certainly if one of the five legal players ...

It's just like any other violation. The violation occurred when the ball was touched by A in the backcourt. Put the ball back in play at the nearest spot to the violation. If the nearest spot is the baseline, then so be it. BillyMac probably has a myth about the throw-in for a backcourt violation always being at the division line. Right Billy?

if it goes completely around the head, it is a headband. if it doesn't go completely around the head (say to hold a ponytail) it is a hair control device. so, pre-wrap that goes around the head -- headband and must conform to the rules covering headbands

Actually, it's a throwin violation because the throwin team fails to throw the ball so that it is legally touched by someone on the playing court.

When I got my 2009 OBR that was replacing my 2005 Sporting News Edition, which replaced my 2000 edition, which replaced ... I noticed that it was now a MLB publication and not a TSN publication. I went to the vast Finnerty archives and pulled out my very first Sporting News OBR from 1965 and started getting all weepy.

You have the player replaced as soon as your notified of their fifth foul. You don't have to wait till the first free throw is completed to do this.
