If you have those entries, and your boot menu's not showing up, run this command from EasyBCD's Power Console in the Useful Utilities section: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes

I would attempt that - but I now think I am back to square one with all the boot/system stuff on C: and that error if I try and change it. I am trying another tack now - backup C: (Samsung) using Paragon Backup/Recovery V10. Then restore full partition to my F: (Hitachi) drive. Then I will try and boot from the new drive .... Waiting for restore to finish, I'll report back later Addendum: Fixed ! Thanks for your help 1 backup Samsung Win7...

Hi Yepper, I've got ZA Extreme security - so possibly different but as I say - use task manager (or SysInternals Process Explorer - better than task manager) to see if ISWSVC.exe is running, if it is kill it and EasyBCD will start - but be quick before ISWSVC.exe restarts. If you don't have ISWSVC.exe running, try just uninstalling ZA and see if EasyBCD works - who knows there may be other ZA components that have this effect... CG,...

W7/XP but XP freezes during boot
Published (2009-12-09 01:10:00)
Thanks for that tip. I did have the XP and W7 partitions switched on the new drive, but the partition number was correctly listed in boot.ini. Windows doesn't assign its letters til it loads, so I don't think it was a letter problem. But who knows? I also tried it with XP and W7 in the same order, copying individual partitions and that didn't work. I went ahead and cloned the whole drive which took the last couple of hours....

Nope, if its necessary to fix its as simple as installing EasyBCD in Vista
after install and adding the missing XP/Windows 7 entries.

Hi Neale.
If you reinstall W7, the clock will start again on your activation grace period. In theory you could use a Windows OS indefinitely without ever activating it, as long as you're prepared to reinstall it every month. I assume MS is not too concerned that that would be a practical proposition which will appeal to enough users to dent their bottom line.

You're using Windows bootloader, EasyBCD is a Windows application that configures it
You may try repair installing XP. A repair install won't wipe out user applications/files.

Hi Bigrig, welcome to NST.
Are you seeing a choice of 2 XPs in a second menu after you select XP in the first ?
If so, that indicates that your XP boot.ini has 2 entries.
You can use EasyBCD/Tools/Edit legacy entries to locate boot.ini and remove any entry that's not wanted.
If that's not your problem, please post Disk Management and Display settings, as detailed at the end of the sticky ...

This happens with both x86 and x64 ?
That normally indicates you're using the wrong one (it need to be the same as the installed OS)

I've seen some people ask about being able to boot EasyBCD from a disc, like noted in this thread:
http://neosmart.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2207
Though this user wasn't having just boot problems, a bootable disc could make it easier for users that need to verify that the entries in the BCD store are correct when they cannot boot Vista.
A bootable disc would make a single solution...

Hello,
Support for OS X is still hit or miss in EasyBCD but is improving.
In the meantime I'm sure you want access to OS X. Since hd1 well boot OS X on its own please use grub-legacy on Linux tab instead and add in the following in menu.lst:
title OS X
root (hd1,0)
chainloader +1

Right click Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management. Assign the small system reserved partition a drive letter and re-run EasyBCD.

Hi Thomas, welcome to NST.
I haven't had a chance to experiment with Chrome OS (which is pretty much all it'll take for me to support it in EasyBCD) but hope to in the (very) near future....
Do you know what Chrome OS uses to boot?
