Sarco Grade II frames

Are these the ones they advertise as "We believe all machining operations have been completed"? You can get some bargains at Sarco, but their descriptions are sometimes less than accurate. Caveat emptor

Basic reliability upgrades/work

Hello, The only thing I would do is get better magazines and leave the pistol stock. If you have reliability problem then send it back to Colt so they can fix it for you. Rgds Eric

Light rail
Published (2009-11-20 03:48:00)
I installed a Caspian add-on rail onto a Springfield 1911. What I did was first mount the light (Surefire X300) and positioned the rail on the frame with the light in the right position (just a little clearance between the back of the light and the front of the trigger guard). I marked the position and saw that I could cut the excess rail that hung past the end of the dust cover off. I then filed nice bevels along the front edges of the rail....

I generally keep my collectibles unaltered. I don't change anything that's original, including grips.

Welcome to the forum.
If it were me I would choose the Colt, in my opinion it is a much better built pistol with only 3 MIM parts (as compared to the Springfield).
Don't get me wrong the Springfield is a fine pistol but I believe the Colt is a better pistol by far.

If a gun is stolen, one would have had to post the Serial# online to appear in a search. While it is worth the effort, it is by no means full proof. Only NCIC has a network, wherein all stolen guns reported to law enforcement are listed.

what is your favorite target?
With Handguns:
1. Armed Felons....... Most challenging
2. Man size Siloette......Great for combat drills
3. Computer Printed Targets.....Limitless supply
4. Wal Mart Cheapo's ..... Nuff Said
5. Beer/ Soda Cans..... Empty of course
6. Paper Plates ....With a cross, centered

May I assume the factory crimp die that you mention is made by Lee?
Yes, you could use the die, but I have not had any feed problems with 45acp loaded with any of my dies...provided they are properly adjusted.
There are ammo checking tools (the name of them escapes me at the current moment) that are a necessity for reloading. If the loaded ammo fits into the tool, it is up to spec ...

Well, two things can prevent the grip safety from functioning properly. Either the arm is not long enough to stop the trigger from moving back, or the grip safety doesn't come out enough, at its lower end, to move the arm down and block the trigger.
Remove the thumb safety and use a powerful light to peek inside the hole. It might be necessary to remove the sear and disconnector, and ...

Not that I've noticed yet. Saw a FS Rock at my range for about $450 and am still seeing them priced from about $375 to $420 at one of the local gun shows. Anything could be happening though. If the secret's getting out about the deals that can be had with RIA's when looking for a good solid 1911 the demand might be increasing.
