Before loading cast lead bullets, don't you have to lube them first? That's an additional step.

Check your extractor tension and adjust accordingly. The article on how to do that, is in our Technical Issues forum.

Hawk: Unless you're casting you own, any cast bullets I've bought in the last 15 years come prelubed with a fairly hard hi-temp lube in the lube groove. If you're casting your own; they need to be sized, and that's when regular lube is forced into the groove. If using a moly lube, I believe that's applied to the whole bullet through a tumbling process. Take care, Rick

Ajax Grips out of business

I think they were pretty big. You often found their grips in j-hooked packages at gun and sporting good stores. Midway and others resold their grips. They had an extensive web sight with many hundreds of grips. Their plastic grips used to be good. Here black Perl with gold Colt med. on a SS Colt Commander (Shooting low and left at 25 yards). Or fake ivory. Here on a SS GCNM from 1988. You could also order wood grips from them in several woods...

We end our tour with the most obscure of the pistols made as the result of government contracts during WWI, the North American Arms Company, Ltd. gun made in Quebec City. To be clear, one cannot call the North American guns "M1911" pistols, as none were accepted for military use. For one thing, they were given a contract too late (September, 1918) to start production before the end of the war terminated the contracts. While...

Baer's are addictive....watch out! IMHO: 1)Yes, to most extents. 2)Yes, sort of. Full size is bigger but most of the "feel" in your hand, aside from the shorter grip, should be the same therefore comparable. 3)Yes. They really feel great....again, IMHO only. I'm a Baer newbie as well and have had the other major semi customs out there and Baer is my hands down fav. FWIW, I think a good groping at a nearbhy dealer...

Not that I've noticed yet. Saw a FS Rock at my range for about $450 and am still seeing them priced from about $375 to $420 at one of the local gun shows. Anything could be happening though. If the secret's getting out about the deals that can be had with RIA's when looking for a good solid 1911 the demand might be increasing.

Yep that's pretty much correct, depending on the options etc. they can run in the $4200-4500 range at full retail, some dealers will give you a better price than that. $3700 for a near new one isn't bad, but it's not good. I've seen quite a few supergrades over the last couple months go in the $3000-3500 range. Economy isn't great and at that price point many people are willing to pay a ...

I don't understand the question. A micrometer is a micrometer. The nominal width of the slide rails is 3/4 of an inch, so any 1" capacity micrometer you can afford will work just fine. I have two: One is a 50+ year old Brown & Sharpe analog that probably cost $50 or $75 back then, the other is a digital from Harbor Freight Tools that I think cost me $19.95 on sale. Once I reset the cheapie so ...

I know its crazy to say, but do you not inspect the pistol before you make your final purchase? Every gun I have bought I have looked over very well. I mean you are throwing down a lot of cash on something you just throw in a sack and walk out the door. If you would have looked at the gun and droped the mag a few times you would have caught the mag release, and the barrel that looks like ...

Here is a picture of the old Colt factory alongside the Connecticut river, shot from the back. Harwood is too law-abiding to stop on the road passing in front of the building, even for the few seconds needed to snap a picture.

I seriously doubt the Kimber's slide/barrel/frame fit is any better than a Baer. Me, I'd what the least amount of MIM parts I could get, I'd get the Baer.

Just a suggestion, but for a lot less than the Wilson, Springfield Pro or the Colt SCG, maybe this model - You get a quality Colt 1911 with a rail to add a light or laser for your tactical advantage for around $1000. Then use the extra money you were going to spend on accessories, ammo and range time.
I'm sure you will get lots more suggestions.....
