Hi Quinlan, ((( Smiles ))) When the instructor walked in front of the speaker and there was a very intense/heavy dense noise which made you want to
protect your ears and run from the noise.. Did the instructer try to cover his ears and how is he doing and anyone else who was there at the time? It's amazing how someone can be at the same event as others and come down with hyperacusis while the ...

keith -- Some folks have the same difficulties you have in wearing headphones or the wearable generators because they are afraid the sound will damage their hearing in some way or further exacerbate the problems they are having. I would follow your
audiologist's suggestion. I also think you might benefit by simply wearing headphones or (if you decide to go that route) the wearable noise ...

First off, sound can't damage
your ears, unless it's loud enough to damage anyones ears like 90+ dB. I always make an attempt to listen to sounds and if it is to much for me I use ear protection, sometimes. Complete avoidance of sound its bad. I mean why not try to listen to it? Because it will hurt? That's phonophobia and just leads to increased sensitivity.
Fact is ears can hurt and ring ...

I guess that's misophonia, you should try to get to a TRT doctor. And in the meantime you can read the info here and http://www.
tinnitus.org . There is a list of TRT doctors here and on Dr. Hazell's website.

Voices bother me as the day wears on. When I talk or when others talk at night, I can feel my ear drums "beating." The same thing happens in the shower or places that echo. My ear drums begin to "
flap" very rapidly, as if they're unable to withstand the noise. It's very weird and disturbing. I get freaked out when this happens.

Misophonia is a recognized term used by researchers and doctors to refer to the dislike of sound. This includes the dislike of specific soft sounds. Unless objective studies conclude dislike of some soft sounds is a specific condition or syndrome that is different from misophonia, members are encouraged and asked to use the term misophonia on The
Hyperacusis Network. Thank you for your ...

I am not using any
hearing aid yet but have researched a lot and have tried many. My doctor also gave me a BAHA trial (Bone Attached Hearing Aid), felt really good that I could hear much better but it costs something like 4000 dollar!! plus a minor surgery for fixing a button sized implant just above the ear. BAHA is the ultimate choice for me because I have more conductive & less neural loss in ...

Tubes are put into the ear to allow fluid behind the eardrum to drain. Usually as a result of an
inner ear infection. I've had it done several times in both ears, but never heard of it as a treatment for hyperacusis or tinnitus. I'd be cautious about a surgical recommendation for relief of H or T. As you'll find on this board, the only treatment that seems to work is Tinnitus Retraining ...
