i picked middle of the road, @ 25gr, any more would have been compressed load. im not too comfortable with compressed loads. its mostly going to be a plinking load @ 50-100yd. __________________ There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. Lee Classic Turret press question

The shell holders will be included with the dies, not the press... How are they to know which shell holders you need when buying a press? However the dies are for a specific caliber and include a shell holder for that caliber..

Quincunx, you will admit that it is common to hear psychiatry and psychiatrists mistaken for psychology and psychologists. Glenn and I have had one or two good hearted exchanges over the difference between a witch doctor and a medical doctor (psychologist vs psychiatrist). Glenn pointed out that he held a PhD. So I do consider him a Doctor, but not a doctor. And to his credit, he doesn't portray himself as a medical doctor to my...

Rifle scope upgrade?
Published (2009-11-19 19:11:00)
You won''t see a difference in normal light. Shooting when it's really bright, the high class optics will give you less chromatic aberration around the outside, and you will get better dusk performance. I have the same VX-I on one of my rifles, and I think I can see a difference in picture "crispness" compared with a Zeiss Diavari, but if that's true or just "it's more expensive it has to be...

Mossberg 500 12ga scope mount

I don't have a use for a scope on a shotgun as I do not have a rifled barrel for those long range high dollar $abot $lugs... At 65 yards, my short barrel, cheap slug and poor eyes can still hit the pump house just fine. Brent

Wait, the M-11 is a DAK Sig? That trigger is horrendously heavy. I would assume the trigger on the M-11 would be the same style at the M9. I thought the M-11 was a P228 in DA/SA trigger configuration like most Sigs.

.... I've actually had an FFL I was trying to use for a transfer refuse to accept the gun from me (out of state seller, but I was visiting the location where the sale was going down so I brought the gun to the FFL's shop). One would think the combination of military ID and carry permit would have reassured the guy that I could in fact legally own the weapon I was selling, but the FFL insisted he'd only handle the transfer if the...

Auto or O/U?
Published (2009-11-19 19:02:00)
Quote: If a semi-auto is used at a range- do you just leave the shells on the ground? Depends on your club- most that I have shot at have no problem with you picking up empties; some do however. For singles, T&S makes a shell catcher that will slip on your gun so the empty sticks out of the receiver for you to easily get it.

Pax, congratulations.
I haven't seen Lessons from Armed America yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Based on the quality of what you write here and on your website, I'm quite certain that it's a superb book. (Hah! and you thought you were embarrassed before... )

Nope.
Look at groceries. Every time the price of gas went up 50 cents, $100 worth of groceries suddenly cost $10 more. Did the supermarkets drop their prices when fuel costs went back down? Heck no, they just waited for the next increase in fuel prices and continued jacking their prices.

Gunk in the firing pin channel slowing the striker down possibly.
I know very little about reloading but could those primers not be seated correctly or just happen to be a little harder then normal?

"They" have? or "You" have? You oughtta post this in the Classifieds section if you're trying to sell something, britsmom.
Though I don't doubt you have a good product, and I might consider it if I were into shotshell reloading.

I think if you cut a 230 grain FMJ load by about .5 grains you should be OK to start. You can always back down from there, but I really don't think there is anything to worry about. Try those and if you have access to a chronograph check velocity and work up to about 850fps. Should shoot about like factory as 231 is a good choice in 45. rc

I don't think you can get 30 grains in a .36 Navy cylinder without some heavy duty compressing & even then the ball may stick out. The most I've ever gotten in one of mine (1982 vintage Uberti) was 26 grains with a 380 ball and no wad. Using a calibrated pistol measure, 30 grains overflows the chamber.

You don't mention the type of measure you are using. On a measure with plastic parts it's helpful to wipe down the "measuring" parts with a dryer sheet which you can swipe from the laundry supplies.

The Beltman makes great stuff.
I also have a belt from Wilderness Tactical Products, called the "Frequent Flyer" that is pretty nice too. Inexpensive, sturdy. Much better than a belt off the rack at a department store, when it comes to supporting a gun.
I'll wear either of those two around town. One's black and the other is brown.
Out hiking, I wear a ...

Shoot to stop vs. Shoot to kill
Most of my threads have a certain amount of a " tongue-in-cheek" intent to them, but this is completely serious. This thread has the potential to go very wrong but it also has the potential to be quite thought provoking. I am hoping it is a frank discussion that we can all be adult and honest about....

I ended up here back in August, I think, after I wrote an essay called " Women, Handguns and Civilization ." I'm pondering a follow-up essay called "Women, Handguns and Self-Defense" or maybe "Wo/men, Handguns and Self-Defense". A combination of the two is going to end up as a chapter of a book...

Do modern micro-9mm guns make the .380 obsolete?
Even though there seems to be a huge resurgence of .380 pistols in the past year I have started to wonder if the micro- 9mm pistols of today have made the .380 a nearly obsolete round.
These days you can get a 9mm pistol in pretty much as small a package as most .380 guns. They...

Based on my (admittedly) brief experimentation with a G17L I'd want to see him do it in person and then I would want to immediately examine the gun afterwards before I'd sign off on this one.

How about five to eight inches at 100. Is that bad? I think so. And the five inches was with a lot of effort and load development.

Those situations happen fast, and it sounds like you maintained a very level head throughout the encounter. You didn't lose your cool, and you kept a close mental evaluation on the situation as it arose. Sometimes calling the cops in fast paced situation could slow you down more than help you. As with any situation like that, I'm sure there are things that could have been done better, but I think...
