Is Anyone Baking A Fruit Cake ?
Published (2009-11-05 11:38:00)
The apricot fruitcake sounds close to the one I had in Texas. My grandmother used to make fruitcake. I remember her filling a jigger with wine or whatever and putting in the center of the cake, then soak cheesecloth in it as well and cover the cake with it. I did not like fruitcake as a child.

Do you have a precooked smoked boston butt? If so treat it just like a ham....did you cook it or buy it already pre cooked? Is it cured? Linda C

No good deed goes unpunished... You could say that you wouldn't be comfortable with that, so if Dad wants to go, he'd need to rent a car. (Though if money is the reason for the carlessness, renting a car would not be feasable.) Or ask GMa to drive all the way? Or suggest that Dad take a Greyhound bus "so he doesn't have to miss quite so many days of work" since you know he needs the money. Or take a deep breath and do...

I don't think this is as much of a design decision as it is of a where do you want to be going decision. Every other decision you've made has been for very spare, very balanced, very deliberate styles. It was the anachronistic candle cups that made you nix that first not-so-drippy chandelier. In the white/gray finish the table and chairs will look great in your kitchen. Like a whisper cloud. And you love them and find them...

Any suggestions on these plans...
Published (2009-11-05 12:10:00)
Yikes, that is closed in! I always thought it was bad enough when those kind of mantels came down to the counter at 12" out from the wall, but at the full 24" makes it even worse. I'm sorry, but I have to agree that I think it'd be a mistake. Not only no room for pan handles, but no room for elbows. It will be like crawling or leaning into a cave...with flames. I know you're probably thinking, "I get the...

I bought a Frigidaire (LFFH2067DW) a couple years ago at Lowe's, upright, auto-defrost, that has been working well for us. Its big enough to take a "full sheet" inside and the shelves, drawers and door are functional for us. It was a "Lowe's special" model that wasn't distributed in other outlets.

We have dish tv. We don't watch alot of tv either, but when we do watch, I want to be able to watch what I want. We're in a rural area. The cable available here was not so great. We get alot more channels with satellite than cable and for a little less money. We've had great service, very rarely has it gone out. We receive some satellite radio stations through dish tv (played through the...

Any cover you put up is going to collect rain and dump it at the edge. Get a section of copper (non-K type) gutter.

The first thing to check is the aerator at the end of the faucet nozzle. Unscrew it to see if it is clogged with debris.

My understanding is that Henkel and Dial have a joint venture agreement but are not jointly owned. From the way people talk about Persil and the experience I've had with Purex together with the other reports on Purex, they're nothing alike in performance. The only time I'd use Purex would be those times when clothes need essentially a rinse. I've never been impressed with Purex performance...

There are a number of blind stores on line - blinds.com, justblinds.com, and many more. Most sell their own label of products and the big name brands. The selling websites have instructions for measuring, but if you have questions, call them before placing the order on line. The ones I have used have knowledgeable people answering the phones.

Personally, I think it's a classic design and unless you have extra $$ you want to burn, I'd leave it. Besides the cost of removal it's going to be a messy job! Plus, it appears it will also involve removing at least the quarter round along your baseboards and some extra work around the doorways & cabinetry.

I think they've been buzzing pretty good. I did notice sometimes over the weekends it seems slower. I'm a 26 year old female. I found the kitchen forum first and sadly, too late. Started posting Nov. 2007.

I too love Halloween. My next door neighbor where we used to live was a born again Christian, I'm Catholic, and he believed that it was devil worship. So it can surely be a religious thing for some people. My parents do not pass out candy, so they leave their lights off, of course, they are in their 80's and it is inconvient for them. If you're up for a challenge, anything can be restored. I know you like to keep a home's integrity, just be sure to check the foundation and for mold. Mold should be a given, it's just a question of how much and what it would cost to get rid of it. Good luck! :)

I'm sorry to say that I agree with your KD. I think the top stack would look better at 12". The bottom stack looks a little squatty since they are just a smidge larger than the top stack.

Thanks for the tip on the buttermilk. I wonder if our Walmart has it, since it only has a limited grocery selection, but I noticed it does have a new refrigerated unit for milk, etc. I always just do the cheater's thing and add vinegar to milk, because I never have buttermilk on hand. Have you ever tried the powdered kind that America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated recommends? I bake my ...

Is one of the suggestions: don't get caught reading the book? That would be a dead give away you're trying not to look old! Or maybe it's don't read the book wearing bifocals? or maybe hang out with really old people? Kidding aside, I'm actually interested. What else can you share with us? I don't wear Mom jeans (yay! for me) and I try to dress "hip", within reason. I think we all know people...

One mention since 2008? The search feature must be busted! Behr uses more of the cheaper ingredients and less of the expensive ingredients that a high end paint would contain. This means it is harder to apply and it will be less washable than a good paint. Will you notice? Maybe not...it depends on how often you wash your walls. Using an eggshell on kitchen walls is fine these days. ...
