Patty, I wish we could have met in Philly. You and your son are so brave. Just to build on what Fed said, Dr. E may recommend HDC considering the cell mixture, particulary the rhabdo. If Dr. E says HDC, that's the route I'd take for me or my sons. This is so grossly unfair, I know. We're still hoping and praying. Be strong.

4xTIP is typically the second line therapy used, but Einhorn has been known to skip this altogether and go for the kill with HDC. Once you have all the results, it would be worthwhile to consult with him, even if it is by an e-mail.

Abby, welcome. I'm so very sorry for the loss of Michael. You both fought hard, no looking back with regrets. The tribute slides are amazing. He will live on in all those young lives he touched, and in your beautiful children. Thank you for sharing your story with us. No worries about bad news or undue stress, we have our eyes wide open to this disease and have cheered many victories and mourned too many losses, I'm so glad Emily...

We definately be sending a card on Monday. I told my sister and she is as well. I despise that fact that any one has to experience cancer but I hate that children do as well. It breaks my heart a little everytime I hear of one.

Hi Jenny. Sorry I'm coming late to your thread. To answer your question about hair loss - it does come out in clumps. One day it's as solid as ever, the next you can pull a huge handful out without any effort. I'd really advise shaving it off as soon as possible - even though it might be a big psychological step to do so, it's better to take control and lose it on your own terms. Keep on keeping on, and hang on to those...

Tough news, Tom.
Did the mass contain Teratoma?
I hope he does not require additional chemo.
Best to you,
Joe

The short answer is yes, teratoma can produce markers. The transscrotal I/O is the likely culprit for the recurrence. I'll write more later when I'm off the Blackberry.

Im currently using Testim, and have been for about 12 weeks now, I use 10mg daily one tube per arm. I find the worst part of it for me is the sticky aftermath. Once its applied to my upper arms they are tacky and my shirts stick to my arms for a couple of hours after, it does wear off after a while but the stickiness after drives me crazy.
On a side note though, I have developed almost a ...

Larry,
I'm sorry that Steven has gone through so much and still has metastases. Yes, yes, yes...contact Dr Einhorn at Indiana University ASAP and get him there. Several members have gone through high dose chemo and stem cell transplants and will chime in to help you with the logistics. There are accommodations in the area that members have stayed at. Candlewood Suites is one. We also ...

Wow, Jenny, the cancer's enough to deal with, without the employment situation on top of it. We'll all be here for support.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest contacting LIVE STRONG Survivor Care to see what resources they can connect you with to help.

Tyler,
The chances that it may have spead our somewhere between 10-20%. The reason for surveillance is to avoid further treatment and if it comes back to treat and cure it. Now normally you should be getting ct scans every 6 months(?) After 2 years. Your first step should be to make an appointment asap with a oncologist or urologist. Then they would be able to schedule a CT scan. If you ...

Hey dude. It's great to hear you are doing well on the mend. As far as your question is concerned, sexual function is not disturbed after the I/O. Of course, you did just have surgery, and I've heard the gamut from people waiting a few weeks before attempting intercourse to others that jump right into it soon after sugery. Just make sure that whatever you do, you don't aggravate the incision.

I would highly recommend contacting Dr. Einhorn at Indiana University. He is considered the testicular cancer expert. Your friend should be seen by testicular cancer experts. This is somewhat rare so again a expert would increase his chances of survival. Good luck!

My husband was diagnosed with seminoma on April 28, 2009...they found an 11cm tumor in his lymph node by his right kidney. There were no other symptoms, until he had excruciating back pain. They did a radical orchiectomy of his right testicle, then 4x BEP (actually, 3x BEP, and then another round of EP at the end). His tumor reduced from 11cm to 1.2cm by 1.8cm, and now they are monitoring it. The...

Sean, I'm really sorry to read about all you've been through and continue to have thrown at you. I'm so glad you're in expert hands, and I hope surgery will turn out to be curative.
Have you checked into clinical trials ? You can contact LIVE STRONG Survivor Care for help looking for matches.
I'm rooting for you. Keep us posted.

The cure rate for both treatments is the same. My sons chemo was directed by Sloan Kettering and they favor 4xEP, if he was at IU it would have been 3xBEP.
