relay help

I just noticed this - so my apologies for the delay in replying - yes - a relay is a relay - until you exceed the capacity of the contacts. I'll just briefly mention that relays can have different configurations of contacts, which is of no relevance to this...

1989 GTI running issues

How about the ignition? if something was bad there surely that could give the impression of running lean? Maybe I looking in the wrong place. I figure if fuel was getting in there would not be enough to wet the plugs? Thinking about how the problem started. The engine was running great but I did notice on SS4 some exhaust note change and popping back through the tail pipe like there was a leak. Checking the exhaust joints revealed all was OK....

Very nice!!! what kind of rear end/diff is that? I think that set-up looks to be crazy fun!! I had looked at your original front drive version, but it looks like the rear drive will last much, much, longer!

The G16 pump seems to be a higher volume pump. It also uses a different profile on the teeth of the actual gear/rotor. The aluminum housing that the gears fit into also has larger passages...and the passage is oval shaped where it meets the block...so it needs a bit of grinding to meet up nicely. I might have put a little weld on the block there too to give the proper gasket support around the oval shaped passage.

Just a suggestion - turn the engine over until the timing marks line upbefore you remove the tensioner and the timing belt.

I would start with the basics and remove the battery terminals and clean them up. Also remove ground cables to the trans, engine, etc and clean all those connections. When the whether gets damp and cold, these are common issues.

i'd recomend swaping the maf, but if you dont have a spare one... i'm not 100% sure on how to test it, i'll look when i get home at the mitchell manual and see if there is anything in there. also not likely but maybe the o2 got some crap in it? could be the tps but i'm leaning more towards the maf.

85 sprint 3 cylinder? The g10 isn't an interference-cam motor. So, no.

Good luck with the swap! I think you have to change the entire harness, including the chassis. I think, check the plugs on both harnesses if they are the same.

If the car has 4 whl disc brakes and is a GT the answer is no not really. Unless you happen to find a 13" wheel that has enough inside diameter to clear the calipers, not sure if there are any out there. Steel wheels for sure will not clear.
