You don't want to just disconnect the signal when you mute the bass, because then you get the "open guitar cable buzz". What you want to do is set up the switch to short out the output to ground when you mute the bass, that way there will be no noise.

Like I have said before, whatever is gonna happen, is gonna happen, and I am fine with that. I'm not arguing to change anyone's minds, as I'd be wasting finger-strokes. I'm just voicing my perception of the removal of post counts from OT. I have no reason and/or desire to leave TB. I see *no* reason to actually pay for a membership anymore, however. I'm a bassist. Been playing roughly 22 years. I'm also a human...

Because the name on the headstock doesn't tell you a damn thing about the
sound or playability of an instrument.

Absurd. Tips are for good service. Large tips are for exceptional service. Tips are mandatory? That's crazy.

I think " heavier bass=better tone " is nothing more than a rumor.
I personally believe the opposite to be the case. At least arguing from the standpoint of personal preference.
I prefer lighter instrument and won't touch a bass that comes in at 5 kg or over( for a 5 string 36" instrument).
There are of course heavy basses out there that sound good too.
I just don't think a generalization is...

Here in Germany it is fairly common to see 5'ers that used to be 4'ers. Normally they are big basses which presumably have thick tops and bars. Since you're going for a a high string you won't be adding as much tension as with a low string, but you should install an adjustable saddle. If the top doesn't like the extra downforce, you can then raise the saddle and relieve it. As for machines, a ...

If you change the driver you'll change sensitivity, output and tone, and without precise specs on the original driver there's no way to predict how. And no, Aggy won't tell you what those specs are, so it's a crapshoot.

This could be fun. Here's mine:
1. Barrage you with emails imploring you attend their pay-to-play gigs and "CD Release Parties".
2. List "Private Party" on their website gig calendar. If the public can't attend it then it's only for show to beef up the number of gigs they actually have.
3. Use bot programs to artificially inflate the number of hits their websites receive.
4. Refer to ...
