With Vodafone, unless it is a really old SIM, you are issued with 3G capable SIMs on both contract and PAYT. It is odd for such a large company, but their network coverage can be a bit sparse in just the places you wouldn't expect. But where they do have coverage it is usually very good, and rarely marginal.

Just been having a look around and I'm pretty sure the N80 was 2006, so yup its pretty old, and to be fair it was pretty slow on its feet even in its day.

Here we go , now this was probably a little to close for the Pulses cheap camera , so even the "Good" one hasn't focused properly , but I think you can see the problems the battery cover causes

Finally a Vodafone customer.
Published (2009-12-15 20:29:00)
I too am now a vodafone customer on their £20 per month sim only tariff (600 mins, unlimited sms and data). I should add that I'm a very happy customer! Using my unlocked 3GS I get full 3G in my house where O2 was flaky at best. The big test will at work tomorrow but I'm confident I'll see an improved service. What's more when I use a data connection the signal seems to improve i.e. if I start safari, the signal is 3 bars...

Virgin Mobile
Published (2009-12-15 21:26:00)
HOLA! Just another update on my dealings with Virgin Mobile. Bad news first - Although Virgin Mobile's website advertises a £5 mobile web add on, or a 30p per day option, only Pay & Go customers can buy the add on. Pay Monthly customers are restricted to the 30p per day option . This means that my tariff would be nearly £20 per month based on a £10 contract + 30p x 31 days of the month. So i'm not happy. To remedy, I rang...

That's what happened to me - bought an Orange PayG sim over the counter, put it in and only got 2G, got all the way home and never saw 3G and started to become suspicious, and found out through another forum that it was probably a 2G sim - which is what Orange sell by default After replacing it with a 3G sim I get 3G in more places than any of the other networks other than 3. (Although 3 do have a few black spots of their own..)...

They've done well with that handset, I hope it's appropriately marketed and a big seller this Christmas.
Assuming it's actually OK to use - I haven't read anything too negative considering the price.

If this is the hotly disputed [by Google] Google Phone then I'm all for it. This will be the Android reference handset.
Of course, Google is already receiving the same treatment that the iPhone and Apple sustains. I suppose that the rival fanbois have a very limited imagination (i.e. if it isn't Windoze then it isn't).

Virtualisation in the mobile space is a good idea now that we've got several full-on mobile operating systems. The prospective user base for this must be mind-bogglingly tiny at the moment, though... I assume VMWare have a pretty specific business plan if they're making all this investment. I mean, it'd be great for testing apps, or for a sysadmin who perhaps needs different platforms to access ...

Handy and Ryanair will be offering free card facilities for Mastercard Pre-Paid customers from January. This can add up to a good saving as they charge £5 per person per journey if you use even a debit card. i.e. 4 people travelling return on a single trip = 4 X £5 X 2 = £40. The Escape card avoids these charges!
Nice find as most of the others I have looked at have hefty charges both when ...

I use my own domain as part of google apps. This holds my email, contacts and calendar and it syncs via exchange on the iPhone.
All of my contacts were up-to-date on google though before I did any sync, so maybe you should backup your existing contacts before you start this process just in case.
I don't have Android, but I'd like to think it works with google apps. My own thoughts would ...

I think they are usually around the £400 mark so its definitely a good deal, I'd probably get it, if you don't like it you can sell it on for more than you paid for it.

This is all part of the purposeful running down of Nokia's mobile phone business. I suspect that in a year or two the Nokia we see then will be a mere shadow of its former self. But the killer question is ... why?
