Have you: Set up your tactics for each character? You can use the ones included without bothering to customize anything. An archer who isn't using the archer tactic isn't much use. A tank not using the defender tactic isn't a great tank. Also... try Easy if you're having trouble. If you're playing anything above Easy and not using the spacebar (pause), you're going to have trouble. Tactical pause is your friend....

Realize that the truck will often make tight corners in reverse that it could never make when driving it forward... utilize your reverse camera..

Well, no offense to your friend, he needs to grow up. The knife is a viable weapon but I much prefer anything else to it. When Im out of rockets, voss, pistol, grenades, and my defib is overheated then I take out my knife but that is only because everything else has longer attack ranges.
