Unfortunately there are a fair number of not very well informed low level employees such as this who don't have the common sense to call a supervisor.
That said I can imagine that Mr. Bierfeldt was exhibiting a certain amount of Libertarian intransigence to the TSA Officers. He really should have if he did not, have kept asking to speak with a supervisor and also should have stated that...
