Pregnant women sacked
Published (2009-11-08 09:37:00)
THE tough economic times - and more generous maternity benefits - appear to be prompting increasing numbers of firms to fire pregnant women or deny them their full entitlements. There were 119 'pregnancy- related' complaints lodged with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in the first nine months of the year - up from 72 for the whole of 2007, and 95 last year. Full Story

I am puzzled as to why the MND did not know how many mass market homes will be built by developers or the year, or how much immigrants have landed or expected to land on our shores. To think that they merrily suspended land sales earlier in the year, with developers cheering. Was this a deliberate ploy to shore up property prices with the intention to squeeze more out of ordinary folks? Or was it an intention to prevent property prices from...

Misnomer / JoJo2008, "Was this a deliberate ploy to shore up property prices with the intention to squeeze more out of ordinary folks? Or was it an intention to prevent property prices from crashing - then I wonder who are they protecting." I would rather take it as the PAP government is trying to pump up the property prices to give the people a false sense of prosperity. First, they take away the supply of lands - to create...

jp p2/#3 ~ If you're mature/confident, don't mind... if not, and the truth hurts, you're welcome... In the context of your sentence, 'such an ingenuous idea' doesn't make sense unless you meant 'ingenious' (very clever as in 'genius') and misspelled. 'Ingenuous' means without deceit or pretence : honest, candid or naive, guileless/artless. Hence, its opposite, 'disingenuous'...
