It seems likeliest to me that it was present at the last endoscopy but did not seem significant. Here is the information that iVillage has about hiatal hernia. http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/hiatal-hernia.html?pageNum=1#1 It does seem that heavy lifting can be a risk factor, or at least can aggravate an already existing hernia. I think that is something you would need to discuss with your doctor. ?

Thank you for all of the information.? I am switching doctors on Monday.? I would have done it today if my primary care doctor's office wasn't closed for the holiday.? I should have done it after the first appointment when it didn't feel right.

A hiatal hernia means that the stomach (the part of the digestive tract normally in the abdomen and connected to the esophagus proximally and the small intestine distally) can be partially seen in the chest. This is a common finding even in patients without gastrointestinal symptoms. Small ones may come and go spontaneously. It is important to know the size of the hernia. Small to medium sized hiatal hernias are common and usually...

Crohns Disease

Hello there, I understand how you feel, I have Crohns too and it can be pretty dreadful, infact it can be a living nightmare. My story is similar to many others, diagnosis took a long, long while, so many doctors kept telling me I had ibs, I was given Fybogel on a few occassions - this obviously aggravates IBD a lot! I?had a new job in the City, was renting a room with a friend and carried on working hard, my doc said I should be fine soon -...

New endoscopy show hiatus...

I just came back from my endoscopy. The Dr. said that he found no food in my gut (Thank God), he found some water, and he found a small hiatus hernia . This last part bothers me. I had an endoscopy in January, and there was never a mention made of a hiatus/hiatial hernia. Could it be that it's so small that the first doctor bothered not to mention it. Or can it be that I've developed it since then? How could I have developed it...

I recommend that you see a new specialist. It is important to select a doctor who starts out taking a good history of your medical problem and does a thorough exam. By the end of the visit, the doctor should have a list of possible diagnoses and a plan for how they will make the diagnosis. If your doctor has not done this then it is time to seek a new physician. Your primary care doctor can ...

Crohn's disease can involve the GI tract anywhere from the mouth to the anus. Most commonly Crohn's disease involves the end of the small intestine (ileum) where it connects to the large intestine (colon). The intestinal lining becomes inflamed throughout the entire width of the involved ileum. This can lead to diarrhea, partial intestinal blockage, malabsorption and weight loss. Any or all...

I would avoid the sugerless gums as artificial sweeteners can cause diarrhea and other g-i symptoms in susceptible people. The sugar in gum is pretty quickly gone anyway, I believe. I have always liked peppermint flavored gums for digestive issues. I cannot recommend a specific brand.
