QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Ely will probably be in the mix as well if he pitches as well in AAA like he did in AA. Yeah, i figured using the phrase "et al." was about as well as I could do to represent the number of other possible candidates who could step up. There's a few, he's among them, and I didn't want to review our entire minor league roster.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) And Jose Contreras the same year, plus he tried for Carlos Delgado but Delgado invoked his NTC. Contreras wasn't as significant as Peavy and Rios in terms of cash allowed, but he did have 2+ years remaining on his contract when we got him. The Yankees did eat salary though. Yeah, I can't remember what Esteban Loiaza was making at the time, but...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Ely will probably be in the mix as well if he pitches as well in AAA like he did in AA. I like Ely and it would be interesting to see how the Sox view him in relation to the other LR/5th or 6th starter candidates we have.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 12:08 AM) I concur, there is no end all be all and anyone who acts as though there is one is kidding themselves. It's not right to take something as subjective and volatile as a player's defensive worth to either extreme. Something to keep in mind; you're dealing with the internet here and if you're going to have an argument about a player's ability or...

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) From what I've seen in Texas, getting into the alternative cert program basically requires a Bachelors and a pulse. It was getting hired that is tough. If there is a teacher shortage, it ain't around here. Nor in Cali.....probably the hardest job to find out there in California is a teaching job.

Uconn's men debut against William & Mary was a pretty entertaining game to be at.W & M kept it pretty close. They have some great 3 point shooting on that team.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) While that's great to hear, Kal, you can't deny that there aren't all sorts of sabermetrics types running around dismissing the opinions of others who use any sort of measuring tool available other than UZR (or some other fairly new and controversial metric). Just as you get frustrated with those that refuse to even consider the possibility that UZR...

Back in the beginning of the summer, my wife bought me the Trader Vic's Tiki Party recipe book on our pilgrimage to the famous Mai Kai restaurant and tiki paradise in Fort Lauderdale. I pulled a couple of recipes from it back then, particularly one that has become my wife's favorite drink. But I never went exhaustively through the book trying out all the drinks mostly because was still working my way through a couple of other...

When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a pilot for the Blue Angels. But, since I have been wearing glasses (with atrocious eye sight) since I was 5, that wasn't likely. For a long time, I wanted to be a meteorologist. I'm still a weather nut and since being a meteorologist is out of the question now, maybe I'll just be a storm chaser.

Crawford yes. I don't think the Sox should go for him if he costs much. Gonzalez no. He is hardly an expensive vet. He has a great bat, good defense, a very team friendly contract and will be 28. He would be a huge coup for this team, even if I don't see that deal happening realistically.

If the Sox have less than $20M to spend right now then expect the payroll to be right at $90M on opening day.

For starters, I would suggest that you please check the 3 or 4 other threads that are centered around Adrian Gonzalez. Secondly, that package doesn't even come close to touching what the Padres would want, and Alexei is as old or older than Adrian Gonzalez is right now. I honestly don't think the Sox are going to be serious players for Adrian Gonzalez, but I've been wrong before....
